In-state acceptance %: W&M vs UVA

Yea… this is not true at all. There are people who get into UVA and not W&M, get into W&M and not UVA, get waitlisted at both, and get rejected at both.

UVA admissions follow GPA extremely closely, while W&M looks at the bigger picture of the applicant.

Both W&M and UVA utlize holistic admission. Each school may place slightly different emphasis on different parts of the application but both review each application in its entirety. Additionally, both schools have similar in-state/out-of-state ratio (W&M’s is 65% IS, 35% OOS) but UVA is expanding its incoming class by more students than W&M is (that’s also a function of the fact that W&M has fewer students overall than UVA does).

Soccerguy is right, there are students who get into W&M and not UVA and vice versa. That’s simply a product of holistic review. Some applications will pop more at one school than the other based on their enrollment goals.
