Trying to decide between UCLA, Cal, & College Park. (It's a financial thing.) Is anyone else here settling because of the cost???

It's a shame you have to pass up UCLA and Cal because of cost.

The UMD decision was based hugely on money. Turned down Stanford ($43K), USC ($45K), Santa Clara ($40K), and Villanova ($42K) for Maryland ($0.00 - thank you Banneker/Key). But I'm happy with Maryland, and can't wait for orientation and such.

Basically half the seniors I know are settling for Maryland. Kid I know got into Hopkins...is choosing Maryland...another Yale...but they're paying him to go to CP. I don't know, I also want to go to USC or UCLA (but my #1 choice is Northwestern...haha, yeah, right), and I'll be pretty upstet if for financial reasons I end up going to Maryland. But it's a big school, I guess I'll be happy anywhere in the long run!

CCRunner: its not set in stone. hopefully i won't have to turn down UCLA and Cal. i really hope not. :-/

I didnt even apply to some of the more expensive schools I knew I could get into because I knew I'd be incredibly unhappy having to pass them up for Maryland simply due to cost.

Eckie: Yeah, I wish my parents told me that from the beginning...

yeah, like eckie, i simply applied to different schools knowing this. I mean i know that I am not going to pay a **** load more for a slightly better school. I applied only public and was quite happy with my appication choice. The biggest mistake I made was not looking into business more at wisconsin. I should have realized that I wouldn't go there becaues they don't offer first year students a place in business. I applied all cheap, all public schools. Tex, UNC, Umich, Wisc, Tex, and PSU. I have always known i was going to UMD and was stressing about it junior year thinking i didn't have the grades. Then I got my 1380 and i figured i had a decent shot.

I totally have my down payment made, my orientation set up, my email and facebook all established and all of a sudden I'm have all kinds of doubts...

UMich isn't cheap at all for out of staters.

Where else where you deciding against eckie?? I am sure you made the right decision, now that you don't have options you might feel out of control but at the time you probably made the right choice. Luckily, ever since I confirmed I have been very happy and I have started to like UMD even more.

CC you are right about that. I was just talking about this with my friend. I shouldn't have ever applied to Umich and their stone age admission system. I applied to Umich for the extremely!!!(don't even laugh because i had no shot) EXTREMELY low chance that I would have gotten into ross. If that was the case I would have ponyed up the money.

eh, its not even doubts about where I had to pick from; it's more like 'wow, I wish I'd applied to different schools.'

I think you're right though. Its funny - early March - when I still had two schools to hear from, I was ready to pick Maryland over Penn and Wake Forest. Now that I've committed, I have my doubts. I think I just have a problem with commitment.

haaa, i know i have heard that line before. :D

I really wish i applied to Illinois and Indiana. Those are my only regrets. I am in business so I was'nt going to apply to any school that ranked lower than maryland at 22. Luckily I am not smart enough to get into the top 10 business schools so I don't have regrets, even though I applied to 3 of them :X. I see no reason to pay out of state tuition for anything between 11-21 so I guess UMD at 22 was fine. I was tinking about applying to Boston College, I acutually did a lot of the application, but then i was like I don't want to take any SAT IIs for BC.

Maybe, just maybe i would go to UIUC or IU but really I wouldn't have so i don't think i am regreting anything.

->I reasoned my way through that while writing.
