In state for Yale?

So I live in Connecticut about half an hour from New Haven. I go down there almost every weekend to chill in that part of New Haven, maybe read something at the Yale book store, shop at Urban Outfitters, and explore the campus in my search for that elusive particle accelerator, or go to a show at Toads Place. So anyway, over the past year or so that me and my friends go down there every once in a while, I've fallen in love with Yale. However, I've rationalized and decided not to apply because its too close to home, it's in New Haven (which is a terrible city outside of the immediate area around Yale), and Yale hates in-state students (<8% i think). But I've decided I can't really not apply so what do you guys think? Am I just paranoid in thinking that in-state have a much lower chance of getting accepted and therefore am wasting my time, or is there no such bias?

Well...Yale's acceptance rate overall is 8.3%....So I don't quite see how you figure that it's a disadvantage.

they like admitting students from new haven

I think there's even a special day for Connecticut students who are accepted.

i'm in the same position as you, and yale was the first school i applied to. the fact that it's close to home shouldn't matter - if you love it, apply! and besides, being close might be nice for the first year, just to make it easier to transition.

they don't hate CT students, i think CT just has a contingent of overambitious white girls that deflate admission rates.

white girls ...hmm this sounds racist

milesmiles is being racist...apparently it doesnt matter though, since it is the other way around--doesn't make much sense to me

wtvr though ;)

he's just jealous. :P

Why should i be jealous :P :P
