In-state/Out-state tuition??

A friend of mine told me that if you go to an out of state public university for a year, then the next year you only have to pay in-state tuition because you have lived in that state for a year. Is that true even though you have only lived in the dorms? Or do you have to live in an apartment or something??

It’s not true for California public universities. It’s difficult to meet the residency requirements - you would need to have graduated from a California high school and/or your parents would need to live here.

My husband and I live here in California now. We just moved here in September. My daughters want to come and go to college here. One is a senior and graduating this June, the other is currently attending college in Indiana, but is not happy there. Would they be eligible for in state tuition?

^^I think the rules are that you (the parents) have to have lived there for a year before the first day of the semester for which your dependent student is applying for residency for tuition purposes. So it might be Spring 2011 before they would be eligible.

Check with the schools to be sure though.
