I was recently awarded the Presidential Scholarship, which is $5,000 per year. I have heard that getting a scholarship from UF is basically a myth because they give out so few. One of my friends attending UF said that they only give out about 100 scholarships to the 10,000+ students who are admitted. I was shocked to hear this news, and I was just curious if anyone knew how they chose the scholarship recipients? My SAT scores are pretty average (1900s) and my GPA is in the 25th percentile as well. Are there other factors that do not include academics or extracurriculars that go into determining scholarships. Needless to say, I am very grateful for this scholarship and I am hoping to attend UF in the fall!
Congratulations! :-bd
Not much is know about the process. The likely do take into account EC’s and they may also be taking into account financial need. Selection is done by a committee, so they are looking at more that GPA/test scores.
