In state tuition AND merit aid?

I was curious if you could still get a merit scholarship in addition to the in state tuition for MT… Anyone know?

It is definitely possible! My D got a merit scholarship PLUS an additional scholarship to subsidize her out of state costs. This was in addition to getting in state tuition. While these scholarships were not large compared to what she received from other schools in terms of total dollar amount, as a percentage of tuition, they were extremely generous.

thank you @MTDadager

Yes, My son got some merit aid in addition to the instate tuition. :D/

My kid, too!

Does anyone know when a merit aid is offered? My s just got a letter of acceptance, but it didn’t offer any merit aid.

No one with a better memory seems to be answering you, @Barrie08, so I’ll do my best. My daughter auditioned in Feb at NYC Unifieds. My memory is that all the offers came about 3 weeks after that, including the financial offer.

@Barrie08 Luckily my D keeps a lot records from last year. She was accepted in the Fall, but the letter with her academic merit scholarship wasn’t dated until January 21st. She wasn’t artistically accepted until February.

How is everyone liking Montclair for MT?

Everyone tends to be parochial to where they or their child attends, including me. My daughter is a freshman MT at MSU and she absolutely loves it! It is the perfect balance between a traditional college campus with the amenities of NYC. The program is honestly a big family and it is such a great learning environment that she can’t picture training anywhere else. She had other options and we certainly had to balance cost/training/campus/location, etc. Overall, as a parent, I couldn’t be happier.

Just saw this thread, so maybe my reply is too late, but my son is also a freshman MT major at Montclair and he loves it. Couldn’t be happier with his choice. Yes, he has in-state tuition plus two merit and/or talent scholarships (I can’t remember what the letters said, but they came on separate dates, several weeks apart).

Thank you @MTDadager and @boatmom for your input. It’s always good to hear positive experience stories about schools your kid is applying to! My D thinks that MSU is going to be her top pick - haven’t even visited let alone auditioned yet! Got a late start because she was in a BFA program this past fall and decided to transfer in December. Started the frantic application process just a few weeks ago – for the second time. FYI - It doesn’t get any easier! LOL!
