In-state tuition?

Are there any set parameters where an out of state student would get in-state tuition? What is the financial aid or scholarships like for out of state applicants? My son is interested in MSU, but the out of state price tag is a bit daunting… Thanks for any information!

Getting in state tuition is virtually impossible.

Michigan taxpayers subsidize the schools so you will have to pay OOS rates or send your son to your own state schools.

@Irishcali - In-state tuition is provided for scores of 33 on the ACT, 1500 on the SAT, or National Merit semifinalist. http://honorscollege.msu.edu/scholarships-incoming-freshmen. This qualifies the student for a professorial assistantship, worth $3000 per year. This assumes your son’s GPA is high enough for admission to the Honors College, generally 3.5 unweighted or above.

These scores also qualify the student to compete for full tuition awards. This year, over 1000 students competed for around 20 awards.

If you are an MSU alum, your son will get another $3000 per year (Red Cedar Scholarship).
