I currently live in Georgia and will graduate high school in this state, but I am originally from Texas. I am wondering about my residency and my qualification for in-state tuition because my step-father is not a Texas resident, but my mom and I were before they got married while he was stationed in Texas. I have heard that the dependent of a military member takes on that member’s home of record, but I am not from his state. Am I still a Texas resident?
Here are the requirements to establish Texas residency for a high school graduate.
To establish residency through high school graduation, you must:
Graduate from a Texas high school or receive a GED in Texas; and
Live in Texas for the 36 months immediately before high school graduation; and
Live in Texas for the 12 months immediately before the census date (usually the 12th class day) of the semester in which you enroll at the university (or another college or university).
I am not sure regarding the military dependent question because I do not know how long you have lived in GA after being in Texas. If you graduated from a GA high school I would think you would be considered a GA resident. Again knowing how long you lived in GA would help a great deal in answering your question.
If you get a scholarship from the school certain Texas schools will grant instate tuition to out of state students. I know A&M does this not sure about the others.
UTD generally grant in-state tuition to anybody who receives one of their AES scholarships.

Non-Texas Residents
Students receiving any level of AES award may qualify for in-state tuition and fee charges, regardless of their resident status.
