in state Vs out of state tuition

My daughter live in Florida with me but her father lives in SC and is a Clemson Grad. he claims her on his tax returns and we have joint custody. I have 2 questions you may be able to assist with :

Would she possibly qualify for in-state Tuition?

She has a 3.7 unweighted and 4.4 weighted she is top 6% of a class of 550 - 5 AP classes so far and 3 more as a senior- (currently a Junior) everything else is honors- she will have 4 years foreign language.
ACT score a little low- 25 scheduled to retake at the end of next month- Political Science major- and she would like to minor in history-she was also chosen to attend Girl State if that matters any thoughts?

Clemson is her number 1 choice.

I’m not a residency expert so I don’t want to confidently answer your question but here are some links that might help you out:

Thanks a bunch- what are your thoughts on her acceptance with her stats as they are?

I think she’s got a very good job at getting into Clemson! Good luck!

thanks so much.

If she doesn’t get in-state tuition, her grades and scores might make her eligible for in-state tuition or out-of-state merit scholarships.

Oh yeah if she doesn’t qualify for in-state residency, she’ll qualify for scholarships ranging from $5,000-$15,000 (which may cover the in-state vs. out of state difference depending how she stacks up against other applicants that year)

While I hope she gets complete in state tuition, those test scores honestly won’t qualify her for the merit scholarships as they stand. Cutoff for the ACT begins at 28 or 29 and the SAT is 1600 or 1800 (thats a big range, can’t remember sorry.)

I originally only qualified for partial merit scholarship, but after studying significantly increased my ACT score. I highly recommend the ACT’s online study tool! Best of luck to her.

Hope she can join me down at clemson next year!

Whoops never mind, just saw the top 10% class rank and didn’t see the ACT score. If she can get at least a 28 on the ACT or a 1250 on the SAT (Critical Reading + Math), she would then qualify for one of the merit scholarships.

thank you so much- she is working on the ACT score now- she has 2 more shots and is really focused on raising the score to a 28. She now is in the top 4% as of the current rank at the end of the year. This is her goal and her number 1- she will be there as long as she is accepted. Her Dad and I will figure the rest out. Thanks for all the input - It is greatly appreciated!
