In terms of academic quality & financial assistance, which is better?

University of San Diego or Santa Clara University?

How well are either school known outside of California? Are they regional in terms of reputation?

Also, which of these two's business school has better reputation and/or ease of getting employment post graduation? I'm assuming SCU just because of it's location, but I may be wrong....

I would say that both are little know outside CA and probably their regions. I’d agree that location of SCU opens a lot of job possibilities, but
USD places well in SD and biotech is exploding if that’s of interest.

East coaster here…DD applied to both USD and SCU. She is attending SCU. In my opinion, both have good regional reputations. Each has some departments that are notable over the other school. USD is a FAFSA only school. SCU requires the Profile as well for financial aid applicants. We found that SCU was more generous with merit aid. USD was more generous with need based (but that was three years ago…and was our experience only).

DD ultimately picked SCU because she is an engineering major and their offerings in engineering were better established and more plentiful than USD. In addition, DD wanted to play in a student orchestra. USD has an orchestra but it is comprised of community members and students…not what DD wanted. And they did not have a private teacher for her instrument which really was the deal breaker for her.

We know students at USD who are mighty happy.

Neither school meets full need for students financially and both are expensive.
