For the hopefuls (and in case some of my classmates don’t know about us), there’s an excellent men’s acapella group called “In the Stairwell” that practices during our free time and regularly performs for official functions like dining-ins, dinners, investiture ceremonies, awards ceremonies, basketball games, boxing matches, taps vigils, and more.

Unlike the official choral groups at the Academy (sorry, eagle… :P), we are completely cadet-run and thus get to do a bit more than the official choirs because of our felxibility and small size. Plus, all the higher-ups including the Sup, Comm, and Dean know about us and love us (particularly General Born), so we get to do a lot of fun stuff.

One of the perks is that Stairwell records a CD every year that we sell to the cadet wing and to family members. We just finished recording our CD for the year this last Sunday, and I have a few sample tracks back from one of our group members.

I would like to share a track or two with you guys, just for fun and hopefully to get a few of you interested in joining the group (guys only, sorry ladies!), but I don’t want to post it to a website and risk our music getting ripped, stolen, or copied.

I’m going to ask the group leader if it’s all right if I pass on a few tracks over email. If he says yes, and if any of you would like to hear a track or two, send me a message with your email and I’ll send you one of our samples, which currently include a combined meledy of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and “The Circle of Life” (Yes, we like to do Disney), “Ave Maria” (a Catholic mass) and “Danny Boy” (a folk song).

Hopefuls, if any of you are singers and are interested, feel free to ask questions.
