In touch

Is anybody in touch with admission officers and/or coaches at this point?

Has anybody been exchanging information in the last few days?

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYBODY!

No. There’s like a dead, dead silence. It’s absolutely frightening.

I believe there is a mutual agreement among schools to not contact applicants during this period. Or at least, the postcard from Governor’s said so

Would coaches contact students after they’ve been accepted, or only contact those who are exceptionally good athletes?

At my school, coaches are asked to contact students after March acceptances and before April decisions to make sure that accepted students have all the information they need about the programs at our school. We are given a list of contacts from admissions based on student interest–not ability.

We were also asked to contact kids during the application process to give them information about our programs and open the door for dialogue, but again, this had little to do with ability. Our school is small enough (under 500) and not so viciously competitive (over 20% of applicants get in) so instead of coaches needing to weed kids out, we encourage everyone. The weeding out happens during tryouts once students have matriculated–we just had some rough cuts for spring sports and activities.

My program needs more students with previous experience, so I’m always in contact with admissions advocating for those special applicants who would contribute to my program. I sense that I have very little pull with admissions, though. :frowning: We’re all at the mercy of M09.

Good Luck to All, and try not to read too much into communications from the schools.

There is supposed to be a lack of soliciting of applicants around this time, at least for HADES

(pausing in my worship of all things ACRONYM to answer this question  )

Same thing is true here. I was just trying to answer bsroxmysox’s question. The next round of contact from coaches will come after acceptances. The first round came before the application reading period started.

(haha)
It’s interesting that schools decide to do that perhaps to not give false hope?

To extend bsroxmysox’s question: Do teachers/department heads contact students after they’ve been accepted, or only contact the most talented ones?

Exactly. Here, Admissions is always sending coaches strongly worded emails reminding us that we may not reference in any way the candidate’s chances for admission.
Of course, I never know whether or not a candidate will be admitted, so I couldn’t make hints even if I wanted to.

@GoldenRatio: at my school, we contact based on student interest, not talent. I cannot speak for any other school but mine, and mine is not a holy ACRONYM school, so you may not care, but there it is.

@Albion: Your school is still a school, and its protocols still matter to me! I do not differentiate between ACRONYM and non-ACRONYM.

Just received an email from a sports coach at one of the schools. What this means, no idea. I didn’t think coaches were supposed to contact until after March 9.

@confusedonhades: Congrats. I’m going to bet that you are in!

@GoldenRatio As much as I’d like to think so I can’t, especially because I applied for FA and had a lower than normal SSAT score. Plus, I don’t want to think I might get acceptance and then get a rejection. Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst. Crossing my 2 fingers that I do get in and crossing the other ones for all other CCers. I’m assuming decisions have been made because I know of two schools that are already on spring break.

@confusedonhades: Well, I do hope that you’ll get into your HADES (plus C) school of your choice! :)

Same to you GoldenRatio! Is the C for Choate?

@confusedonhades: Yep! After all, aren’t you applying to Choate as well?

@GoldenRatio No I’m not for some reason it didn’t catch my eye. However I figured that’s what you were talking about. I’m assuming you are applying there?

@confusedonhades: I think I confused you with someone else who applied to C+HADES. Sorry!
