I keep reading how hard it is to get into UVa out of state. Could anyone here please direct me to a previous thread, stats on line, or just your own knowledge to give me an idea of what the average stats are for in versus out? Thanks.

i can't site this, but my guess is....

about 45-50% chance in state.

20-25% chance out of state (i've heard it's practically ivy league level from out of state. This is not to say, however, that out of state applicants who get in are all on the ivy level; rather the % of admission is just similar.)

Again, this is just my best guess based on what i have heard and their overall acceptance rate (37%.)

Well, out of state IS considered Ivy League status. I remember back when everyone was first getting in and out. I was seeing some pretty spectacular students getting turned away, the common denominator? Either out-of-state or Northern Virginia. I guess us Southwesterns get it easy huh? I know for a fact that being out-of-state is a huge difference...unless you have legacy....I did, but didn't seem to need it....

Instate applicants are admitted at a rate of approximately 50%, while out-of-state applicants are admitted at a rate of approximately 30%. While that is competitive, it's not quite "ivy league" competitive.

Oh, BTW, it's not that much harder for NoVa applicants to get in than for Southern VA students. This is a myth. Check this out:

It is not a myth if non-NOVA applicants get a 51 point SAT edge...

well...im from the suburbs of philadelphia, average highschool

SATV 670 M 600 SATII BAD
i was the standout athlete of my school...my teachers/principals n coaches LOVED me n wrote some amazing recs...

my ecs....varsity field hockey, track and soccer for 4 years, MVP for each sport, captain for each sport since my junior year, NHS, my schools student of the month, church n awards, various awards for academics, several club teams for hockey n soccer, tons of awards for my sports including selections to state teams, regionals, etc, NO community service...blah blah blah

being a black female applying to UVAs nursing program helped alot because the amount of blacks in their nursing program was soooo low...i mean when i visited i could count them on two hands n for a school that big...that doesnt look good!!

but, i wrote amazing essays, out of all the schools i applied to, the essays I wrote for UVA were the best!

i chose uva over udel upitt boston college...
all in all i consider myself blessed n i cant wait until august 20!!!!!!!!

n i took all honors courses my entire high school career.... i earned UVA!

Years ago, UVA used to accept only the best and brightest out-of-state students, and accepted a ton of in-staters. Apparently, the in-staters then felt outgunned by their non-VA peers, so UVA changed their policies - accepting more out-of-state types and making it the school for the bright in-state kids.

I've heard that it's very difficult to get in from out-of-state if you require financial aid.
