In what area is Cornell well known for?

People tell me its engineering but other than that are there are any more areas of academic that Cornell excels at? How is their Econ ?

dude, cornell is top 10 in so many disciplines. Some of these areas include english, philosophy, chemistry, physics, spanish, french, and other languages, and much more buddy.

Is there site or any material to prove this?

I don't mean to sound rude by the way :)

yeah...go check the NRC rankings of departments...

Cornell traditionally has excelled in numerous areas. Its offerings are more diverse than most other colleges I'm familiar with.

The university has 7 undergraduate colleges. The more specialized of these colleges are each at the very top of undergraduate programs in their respective disciplines: Agriculture, Architecture,Hotel Administration, Industrial & Labor Relations, and Human Ecology. Cornell is known to excel in each of these fields.

The College of Engineering is typically considered a top "10 program" (whatever that means) I believe.

The College of Arts & Sciences has many outstanding departments. It has traditionally had particular excellence in the sciences. Many of the liberal arts fields are outstanding. When I attended, Government and History were considered outstanding departments. However I am less familiar with the current standing of each department within the College of Arts & Sciences at this time.

Cornell has produced a number of outstanding authors over the years, for whatever reason.

Extracurricularly, Cornell frequently has excelled in ice hockey and lacrosse.

Cornell has excellent graduate programs in all of the above areas. Moreover it has professional schools of : Veterinary Medicine, Medicine,
Law, and Business. Most of these programs are also very highly regarded I believe.

Let's not forget that Cornell is extremely well known for hotel management. So if you have a burning desire to manage a hotel, Cornell is your best bet.

US News ranks the Cornell PhD program in Econ at 17. I am not sure what this says about the undergrad Econ major but the undergrad program is probably pretty good. Cornell would be a good place to dual major in economics and something else, like engineering, agriculture, hotel administration, education, industrial & labor relations, and so on. Agriculture and Industrial & Labor Relations have low tuition.

That is, if you're a resident of New York state. That's because these schools, while administered by Cornell, are technically part of the SUNY school system.

Cornell is also very strong for astronomy.

Cornell has top departments. In addition, Cornell has it's school of Hotel Administration (probably the best school in hospitality in the world), it's school of Industrial and Labor Relations (it's world renowned), and it's college of Engineering.

Cornell is excellent in almost every field:

Where did you get those rankings from?

US News rankings

Best known for engineering, hotel admin, and architecture although it's pretty strong in most of the sciences.

Its good at everything; its engineering is really good but so are the rest of its programs

The Hotel Management is pretty unique too
