^ Wow, I definitely didn't read that far into it...

Guys...

He posted some lines from the Princess Bride...

my thought to the original poster... all the ivy's are so different, so why would you apply to all of them? It's really sad how the term "ivy" is all that some are looking at. My son only applied to 2 of the ivy's because he researched the schools and found that only 2 had what he wanted in a school. How sad that a name is so important to some.

guitars101 - I don't know where you got the impression that I applied to all of the schools in the Ivy League. I did not. In the future, please make sure that you know all of the facts before jumping to conclusions.

Additionally, the fact that an applicant applied to multiple schools in the Ivy League does not mean s/he is necessarily focused on the name. Is it not possible that the applicant actually liked each of the schools to which s/he applied, and that they also happen to be very prestigious?

And if an applicant WERE to apply to a school simply due to its name (or rank or prestige) - I fail to understand why this makes you so "sad." The prestige of a university is very important to some: not just so that they can tell people where they go but also to allow for more career options following graduation. As a matter of fact, I know of certain companies (for example, Essay Advantage: College Admissions and SAT Essay Editing Service) that hire exclusively from within the Ivy League.

hmm... this is a very interesting question. Actually, I've been thinking 'bout this
for some time since I applied to six ivies. Right now, I'm thinking:

Columbia, Cornell, Princeton, Dartmouth, Yale, Harvard.

But I have a feeling that on the 31st, the second I see that harvard e-mail, I will be most tempted to open that first, more than anything else.

hypothesis: people who arrange the order of the colleges they check on decision day will not get into harvard.

lets see how well this hypothesis holds up

hahaha, this is great.

This thread mirrors the exact question I asked my parents a few weeks ago!
It's like you guys are psychic.
But anyway, I have no idea which ones I'll check first. I'll probably check Cornell first because I was deferred ED by it (them?) and I'm still very interested in attending.
But I have this sneaking suspicion I'm actually going to check Penn first... and I have absolutely no idea why. But it's going to happen. So maybe Penn, then Dartmouth, then Cornell.
Then Yale, then Harvard. As an afterthought. Because there's NO way I'm getting into either.

Did anyone apply to EVERY Ivy? I applied to five.

I applied to six, and will be rejected by six. :) ALL HUMILITY OVER HERE! Heh.

I applied to five, and will be rejected by six!
I mean... um... five. Yeah. Math FTW!

^ Ivy material

You and me both!

I applied to five
Ill check:
Dartmouth (got a likely, so this will boost my confidence)
UPenn
Columbia
Princeton
Harvard!!!!
Thats pretty much in the order from least to greatest for how much I want to attend each school.

I only applied to 2, but will be rejected by all 8 with warnings not to apply for transfers or graduate school "or else."

maybe i will not check at all on March 31st.... i will have exams going on at that time till the first week of April.... so why not open my inbox after 1week?

^ Oh my gosh, I couldn't handle waiting a week.

I'm actually confused now. I thought they all sent emails, but do you have to go check them on the sites? That would be sad.

If they sent emails, I could just flick through them in the order P-Y-H (aka rejection-rejection-rejection), and go to sleep (I get my results at midnight - a colorful curse on the time-zones).

Harvard sends emails, Pton and Yale you check online.

darn. ah well :)

Btw, that was my favorite Princess Bride scene, along with Inigo's mantra and Vizzini's "I'm waii-ting". And Fezzik's rhyming. And the "Humperdinck Humperdinck Humperdinck" scene. Actually I don't have a favorite scene - it's all great :) lol

Out of curiosity, has anyone read the book and liked it? I thought it was much worse than the movie, which is atypical for me - Books are always better than their movies.

Anyways, if they send an email, I might as well get Harvard over with first ;-)

Let's see, I will most likely apply to Columbia, Brown, and HYP in two years. It'd be from least favorite to favorite. As in:

Princeton

Harvard

Yale

Brown

Columbia

Chyeahh. This is so pointless...

i applied to five:

Brown, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Yale

maybe ill just check them in alphabetical order lol :)

and goldenratiophi- ill probably get that warning from the other three haha
