include a variety of mediums for the portfolio?

im noticing that a good majority of the art schools want to see a wide range of mediums in a students portfolio. now im just wondering how much of a range? the only mediums im comfortable with is pencil, color pencil, watercolor, and charcoal. i know for a fact that if i try to use any other mediums, the quality will drop dramatically. how much of a range should i have in order to be safe?

oh i heard in portfolio if you have most of pencil, your safe. and what im using are pen, watercolorpencils(you can draw and put water then it looks like watercolor), charcoal, acrylics, colored pencils…thats pretty much wat i used haha..
dont forget to arrange your ideas into drawings. they want you to do something that you do it in your own world. They dont care if they can understand your drawings.

Using a variety of mediums is important in a portfolio when you’re applying to an undergrad program. But you should only use mediums your comfortable with. If the quality will decrease drastically by using different mediums, stick to your comfort zone.

i agree with odyism. i am currently working on my portfolio now for transfer and my professor told me the exact same thing and stressed it so much
