Include or not?

I was recently diagnosed with an anxiety disorder (it has been apparent since lower school but this was a formal diagnosis where I received medication for it). On the common app, should I include this? My grades have suffered (not below b-) because of it, so that is why I ask.

This might be something for your guidance counselor to discuss in their letter, especially if there is reason to believe that you will perform better now that you are receiving treatment.

It may make much better sense for you to continue with your tratment long enough to actually perform better in your classes, and to get used to your new way of dealing with things before applying to college. Think carefully about the option of a gap year.

I’m applying fairly soon. This diagnosis was made close to Thanksgiving.

This should never be submitted by the student as part of application. So far you do not we an academic impact of anxiety and it is too early to know what if any benefits meds may have. There is no good reason for you or anyone to mention anxiety at application. It won’t help. Even with no apparent negative impact, you never want to raise the possibility of anxiety on your academic performance now when admission is on the line. If you are not admitted you will never know if anxiety had an important negative impact and even if it did have an adverse IMPAC impact on admission, you could not challenge the decision because you raised anxiety.
