Near the end of my junior year, I started an online magazine with some friends that takes submissions from students. I’m wonderng if I should include this in my apps, because the website isnt CRAZY popular, but we put a lo of time into it, its something I am passionate about, and it fits in with my theme. Should I not include it just because it doesn’t get insane enough viewership for it to be considered incredibly impressive?
for reference, If I include it, It would be the 7th extracurricular on my list, so its not as if I have a shotage of extracurriculars, I can easily include something else and still have 10.
Yes, sure, if you are into it and spend time on it, include it. ECs aren’t always about what other people think about it, they are about what YOU care about.
I agree with @intparent.
Without seeing the rest of your app, it’s tough to know if this adds to or detracts from it. Here are some of the things you can ask yourself to see if this EC should be included:
- What does this EC show about me?
- Does this EC demonstrate attributes that I haven’t shown in the other ECs or activities?
- Is it important to me or does it represent something I’m proud of?
It is perfectly fine to include – especially if you put time into it and are proud of it… Keep in mind that having the online magazine as a 7th EC or not including it likely won’t move the needle on any admission decision.
