Incoming Cal Students Thread

I took a good vacation from these boards about 3-4 weeks ago only to come back and see these boards overrun by UCLA students and their stuff. Love to see the community-creating by the future Bruins... but where are my [big] Bears at?

...so to generate some sort of conversation amongst us, i decided to make this thread.

To top it off -

Anyone want to put bets as to when our housing assignments will come out? I have a feeling our housing assignments will come out on Wednesday, June 17. I just got an email in regards to any "special accomendations" and the deadline given to me to respond was this Friday (June 12th). So my guess is they are going to process the accomendations on the Monday they come back, then Tuesday - finalize all of them.

What about you guys?

That would be awesome to know soon! Crossing my fingers for Wada.

I will be attending Berkeley in the fall. I flew up on Saturday to put down a deposit on a place. I move in on 8/1. I will have to hit the pavement right away and find a job.

@ kitkat - why wada? lol. im hoping for unit 1.

@kc - good luck on that. it’s crazy hard finding a job these days, lol.

lol. i just liked it…and it’d be nice to be with other transfers…but who knows what I got…and the dorms are quite expensive!

is it hard to find a job in Berkeley?

and i leave for Berkeley in 11 hours…CalSo on the 11th…cant wait…i will try to articulate my experience when i get back but im not very good with words.

^
Take some pics!

On my way to class I saw people today in their calso groups, i thought the first calso was the 11th? maybe it was freshmen today

kc… the campus hires a lot right before Fall semester so you might want to check that out, especially the RSF

^^Thank you, luv. Yeah, I plan to move up on Saturday (8/1) and jam over to the campus on Momday with my resume in hand. I work in the transfer center at my CCC, so I hope that my previous work experience will help me get something quickly.

I also will be attending Calso on the 11th–would love to be able to just grab my classes, id, and maybe some food then be able to leave. But seriously, twelve hours of anything except sleep sounds dreadful.

On other news, Cal is pre-ranked in the top 20 for football!!!

Did anyone apply for the Global Environmental Theme House at Foothill??? I’m hoping to get into that one!! :D

Anyone taking summer sessions?

Anyone who went to CalSo today have a report? I am going on the 17th and will definitely post something here about it, but I’d love to hear from those that went today!

Also, are you guys all members of the two UC Berkeley Transfer class of 2011 Facebook groups? I think a lot of people have migrated over there…

^
yeah I was wondering the same thing…I saw a lot of calso groups on campus today & was thinking about you guys on these threads…hope someone posts their experiences from today

if you want to register but your group has to take a tour or something just ditch them and go on calso.berkeley.edu and get the advisor code and sign up yourself.

Yeah, I went on the 11th. I recommend just staying long enough to talk to your major advisers. Then at lunch grab your free sandwich and go, or face 6 long hours of useless crap. You’ll get your registration code on calso.berkeley.edu. Also, they make you wait to get your CAL 1 Card until the end of the day, but it doesn’t do much and it only takes 2 minutes to make, so you can just go get one at another time. Not sure if they’ll let you get one during CalSO if they figure out that you just ditched out. Don’t forget an unofficial transcript so you can declare your major and avoid being wait listed in phase I of telebears.

Actually, it’s a $110 sandwich.

Dem Bones-Did you have a hard time registering for any of your classes? I still need to take one pre-req and I’m terrified that it will be full.

Telebears phase I you can only register for 10.5 units. Lower division pre-req classes, from what I’ve seen, are pretty large and have lots of room, so I doubt it will be a problem. What’s kinda crappy is that, as I understand it, you will be wait listed in upper division courses until July 17th when telebears phase II starts. In Phase II the max units you can sign up for increases 16.5 units, and upper division courses open up to people who are not declared in the major as well. You can check on how full classes are here: [Search Fall - Online Schedule Of Classes](http://schedule.berkeley.edu/srchfall.html)

An interesting note for poli sci majors is that the international relations course is relatively new to Berkeley, so lots of community colleges have not had their international relations courses articulated for Berkeley, yet. The advisers encouraged us to submit a syllabus and transcript in order to have international relations courses that are not “articulated” approved for the major at Berkeley. This was kind of a problem I was having as no community colleges in my area were articulated on assist.org, so just something interesting to know, especially if you are coming up short on lower division requirements for declaring or, like me, you wanted to do your subfield specialization in IR, but don’t want to take lower division IR at Berkeley.
