Incoming Fall 2009 Grad Student - Housing?

Hi everyone!
I've applied for Fall 2009 admission, and also for Graduate Housing. However, I realize that chances of getting on-campus graduate housing right off the bat are slim. I wanted to ask those familiar with Gainesville for advice about living off-campus. How serious is the parking situation? I wouldn't mind living a little further away from campus if I could park on campus.
I'm looking for a one bedroom, my fiancee will be visiting on the weekends, so I need the privacy.

Thanks in advance!

The parking situation is dire. If you do not live on campus, the only decal you can get is for the commuter lot.

So my chance of parking is higher if I live on-campus? Are the buses any good?

The bus system is pretty good. I only had to walk about a quarter to the bus stop when I lived off campus. If you're a commuter, god speed to finding a parking spot past 9am.

hahaha, so the parking is the same as my current U... you have to stalk and follow people heading into the parking lots!
