In order to declare as a poli sci major, I know you have to take poli sci 3 first, yet have any of you decided on which upper division classes you will take as well your first semester if any and what is your emphasis in the five categories?

OP Where does it say you have to take PS 3 empirical analysis and quantitive reasoning first to declare?

I think it’s a graduation requirement to take PS 3, not a major declaration req. We have to take at least one course in each sub field to satisfy our distribution requirement and then I think 8 classes to full fill the major. Two elective courses in any other subject.

I’m a Spring Admit and I haven’t decided which sub field I would like to focus on but political theory, international relations, and American Gov are on my short list. Oh and Comparative politics…I like them all

You can declare poly sci before taking PS 3, since the class is offered only by UC Berkeley.

@ darkstorn really? YESSSSS!

can I get a confirmation on that. Makes my life easier.

As Political Science majors, if we completed IGETC, which courses should we take when we first enroll at Berkeley?

MortimerC Yes, this is true.

External: Good question. I think we should take introductory courses to finish the distribution requirement, since it’s recommended that we finish that requirement before we finish our junior year. I’m not sure which specific classes we should take though. PS 3 sounds like an interesting course (im going to take this course). The political science department is suppose to come out with requirement sheets for each subfield I think.

i declared polisci during calso (6/10). so it’s not necessary to complete ps3 before declaring… however, classes are filling up extremely fast. there are only a couple of classes open for polisci upper divs the sooner your calso date, the more chance you have getting into an upper div class. sucks.
