I'm taking CS 61A (4 units), Math 1A (4 units), NE STUD R1A (4 units), ESPM 40 (2 units), and I really really really REALLY want to take this web design decal, which is 2 units.

is a schedule like this doable? i only have two technical classes...CS intended major btw

pls link to the ad on facebok coz i wanna take teh class too…even tho im already designing pages for my friends startup…he graduated last year from cal

^ Please write in proper english, you’re a college student now.

Are you talking about the InoD decal? Because you can sign up for that when the semester starts, it involves an application since it’s really popular.

jesskidding: Your schedule is well balance. CS 61A is not an easy class from what I have heard from others but it is doable. Have you taken AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC? Math 1A’s concepts are not that hard but the curve can be harsh. You are competing with students who have taken these courses or courses equivalent to Math 53 or 54. The class is really diversified. I know people who have taken it from various backgrounds with some who have only taken PreCalculus.
whggha: I am sorry about your neurological problem, but from reading your posts, you seem like a jerk. I am sure that you are an intelligent individual, but you must understand that taking more than one CS class per semester is unheard of, therefore, not everyone is going to take too many technical courses. We also have no clue concerning jesskidding’s life or high school background to judge her schedule as doable. Welcome to Berkeley and Go Bears!

whggha, I’m sorry about that then, just thought you were being a little rude earlier. Since the innod decal has an application, you’ll have to wait for the semester to start to apply (the application site isn’t up yet) but here’s the listing on the decal site [DeCal : Innovative Design’s Intro to Photoshop and Illustrator](<a href=“My Dating Tests – What I learned to avoid”>My Dating Tests – What I learned to avoid), hope this is the decal you were talking about.

well ur mistaken on that part bro its quite common for ppl who are up for a chalenge… i had a friend who took cs61ab and cs70 and he got no lower than a- on all of em oviously its doable… im even smarter than him thats why im foloing his path probly even take that web design decal

if ur in l&s and u tak 1 cs class per semester u wont get declared until ur junior yr or end of ur sophomore yr…and if u continu at that pace u wont fulfil teh 32 unit uper div cs requirment in time to graduate

on pg8, senior fall, cs152 and cs164 are paired together … on pg 9, junior spring, cs164 and cs170 are together…oviously its necesary to take 2 cs classes simultaneously to graduate on time…

I don’t think that I was clear. Taking 2 CS courses or more is common but not for the first semester. In fact, I know people who take CS 61A during the Spring Semester. The two CS courses are usually taken second semester of Sophomore year. I guess it is ok if you are smarter then your friend, and he could handle three CS courses simultaneously, but does he have a neurological problem. Have you ever live by yourself, and do you know the type of roommates you are going to get. The atmosphere will be completely different. Also your friend might have had easier professors or his competition was dense or less dense than the one you are going to face. Grades at Berkeley do not depend solely in intelligence but also dedication and time. Good luck!

No, it is not necessary, those are 2 examples out of 10 different ways to complete your cs major on time. 8 of the ways don’t ever involve taking 2 cs classes per semester so it is not “obviously necessary” it’s just an option.

You can take as many cs classes as you want, but don’t go around telling other people they won’t graduate on time when you have no personal experience and are just going off of what your friend did one semester.

my nerological issue has nothing to do with my inteligence…my friend had hilfinger whos hard and denero whos cool and vazirani who i hear sucks lol so he didnt have it easy…im gona have the exact same group of profesors if denero teaches 61a…

OP said hes intended l%s cs. based on [Undergraduate L&S CS Students | EECS at UC Berkeley](http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/csugrad/) he has to take 16 units in lower divs and 27 units in uper divs. in total this is 43 units of cs courses…all of em are 4 units except 2 that are 5 (cs150, cs152)

lets say that OP has 8 semesters left at berkely even tho he said hes a sophmore. if he folows ur advice and takes 1 cs class per semester then thats 48 = 32 units which is way below the mark 43 units… but in fact hes a sophmore and only has 6 semesters left (7 if he stays an extra semester) then thats 46 = 24 units which is even worse…

my friend says that the lower div clases are piece of cake and its beter to double up on those than on uper divs which have more work so im just giving OP good advice to double up while the clases are easy and not when he has to scurry to catch up in his last semesters with upper divs

These 27 units, as it says on the website you linked, have to be from the approved listed technical courses which are NOT only cs classes but include EE and other electives in different departments.

Please understand that the sample schedules that every department produces are all complete ways of graduating in 4 years with that major. These sample schedules are there to help guide new students who will make mistakes based on there own assumptions and every incoming freshmen should use them wisely.
