I'm not sure if such a thread has existed in the past, I apologize if I'm repeating history. I thought I'd make a thread where new incoming freshman can introduce themselves to each other. Might be cool to run into some CCers in UCLA. I'll start.

My name is Raj, I'll be reading Economics at UCLA this fall. So far I've opted for a single room in a residential plaza (I'm not sure if I should have done this, I've read that it might get lonely). I'm a US Citizen, originally from India, living in Singapore at the moment. Just took a gap year in which I helped my father start and run a small company.

Haha, this might have already been done, but oh well, I'll go next...

My name is Brett, and I go to Las Plumas High School in Oroville, which is about an hour north of Sacramento, near Chico, in the heart of Norcal. Coming from a small town where the center of culture is Wal-Mart, it shall be quite the change to move to LA.

My passion is journalism. I've been the editor of my high school newspaper and an intern for my town newspaper for the last two years. At UCLA, I hope to major in Communications, but as the major seems to be pretty impacted, I may end up doing another social science is instead or in addition to comm, such as psychology or anthropology or poli sci.

I used to want to go to Berkeley, but I decided to go to UCLA after going to the state finals for the alumni scholarship there last weekend. I met a bunch of great people, and the campus is SO beautiful. I think it will be a great four years.

^^ That's cool, rajinthebox! I don't know how many freshmen get singles, but it's definitely worth a try. Singapore is AWESOME; I spent four days there last Christmas when my family went to Australia. Nice exchange rate ;)

I also share your interest in journalism. In my school surprisingly enough, there had never been a student newspaper. So I decided that I would try to start one, and with a lot of work and luck it turned out to be successful. I was the editor-in-chief for a year, and during part of my gap year I trained the team that would take over next year.

Yeah, I've heard the campus at UCLA is beautiful. I visited Berkeley last month but I wasn't too impressed (except with the food, which was fabulous). They turned me down anyway =p

On a side note, I was checking UCLA's website and I couldn't find a major on journalism. Does one exist?

That's awesome that you started your own newspaper! Good for you.

I think I'm going to take a gap year after I graduate, either before graduate school or before I decide to get a job. Life is too short not to stop and enjoy yourself along the way.

Well, a "journalism" department doesn't exist, but their communications major is really strong. Honestly, even though I initially wanted a journalism major, the communications major is more broad and I think will open more doors for me.

Have you considered writing for the Daily Bruin? That's an awesome journalism opportunity at UCLA...

Yeah, I will certainly apply for a post at the Daily Bruin, although I have no idea how easy/hard it is to get a post with them. Would be pretty amazing to be a journalist for them though. Yeah, certainly take a gap year, it is a refreshing experience to travel the world or take some time off to try new things =)

Wow tsnuf really? What school do you go to? I went to United World College, graduated last year. I presume you are either from there or the Singapore American School?

Hey fellow 09ers! My name is Jennifer and I live in the Pasadena area (where the Bruins play their home games @ the Rose Bowl! woo hoo!) I was deciding between UCLA and USC for college and sent in my SIR to UCLA last week. I finally finished my housing app this week: applied for Res Hall, double, late nighter, don't drink/smoke and my main preference is to get an Opportunities in the Arts theme floor.

My passion is for world affairs and politics, therefore I plan on majoring in Poli-Sci and double minoring in Korean language (I'm 1/2 Korean and hope to be more fluent in it) and Global Studies. I am going to do the Honors program as well.

My other passions lie in the performing arts, namely dance and theater. I hope to stay involved via joining clubs and doing stuff outside of college. Not only does UCLA's campus offer tons of things to do, but the surrounding area/cities offer soooo many opportunities.

I am going to miss high school, but I am definitely ready to leave and I'm SUPER excited for college. Can't wait to meet you all :) ttyL. Congratulations everyone.

Hey, I'm Marshall
I'll be attending UCLA as a freshmen this coming fall. I'm from san marino and I attend San Marino High School. There's not much to say about where I'm from. It's a very small and sheltered community.
