Incoming freshman, need a little help with scheduling please. Thanks in advance.

First of all, I am an incoming freshman going to Cowell and I am majoring in MCD Biology. I was recently checking the schedule of classes and I am worried that Schliech (whom I've heard is horrible) will teach the 2:00 Chem 1A class because as of right now it is listed as "Staff". What are the chances of that happening? I got a 33/42 on the Chem self assessment signifiying that I have a good foundation if having a weak background would be an issue with taking Schliech.

Secondly, I plan on signing up for Math 11A with Eastman. How is he? He has mixed reviews on ratemyprofessor.

Also, I placed into Cowell 80B because of the 10/12 I got on the AWPE. What should I expect? And how does it differ from Cowell 80A besides the fact that I am going to take 1 less writing class?

Lastly, when should I schedule my discussion sections? Morning, Afternoon, or night? I have been told by a friend that the later in the day the section, the better because that way I can get hints from people who took it earlierly to know what to expect. Is this true? And should I schedule them on M,W, F so that I can have Tuesday and Thurday off? Or should I schedule them on Tuesday, Thursday so I can have class everyday?

Thanks in advance. Much appreciated.

Don’t know anything much about Schliech, sorry.

I’ve heard generally good things about Eastman. He tests harder, but the homework is easier.

Your core class will differ in only one aspect. You’ll get to write a research paper. Length varies depending on teacher, but expect 10-20 pages.

The only advantage I had with taking a night section was that I found out if there was going to be a quiz that day. Otherwise, it sucked. I’d much rather get done with class before dinner than to have to drag myself out of my room for a 8-9:45pm section. I think you ought to schedule your sections to be T/Th. Cramming classes into M/W/F would make for very nasty deadline pileups.

I had schleich for chem1a and got a b in his class. Personally, I wasn’t a big fan of his lectures because he seemed to overcomplicate things a bit. But if you take schleich, I recommend going to section. His sections aren’t mandatory but they help ALOT.

I think it’s better to have Section either right before or right after a class (if possible).
