Incoming Freshman needing help with course selection?

Yeah, I know that we’ll be contacted over the summer, but I still can’t stop thinking about courses and want to see if anyone can give some input on it. I’m going to CAS as a mathematics major, and I don’t really know what classes to take yet (aside from WTE, since that’s a requirement). I’m thinking of Calc 3 or Linear Algebra, but I don’t know if I’m allowed to take both at the same time, since I still have to satisfy some of my core requirements. If anyone has any advice pleASE throw them at me ;u;

First off, congrats on being accepted to NYU! I am currently a rising sophomore at NYU doing premed and majoring in math. A lot of people I know tend to take linear algebra with calc 2 or calc 3 and don’t have a problem with the course load. I recommend this because as a math major you’ll have to take two math classes at a time for a few semesters anyways. Taking WTE now is a great idea; despite the horror stories I heard about WTE, I actually enjoyed the class. Take Victoria Anderson for WTE if you can, she’s an amazing professor and makes the class fun. Feel free to ask me any other questions you have about NYU!

@loveshodgybeats thanks for the input! it’s really hard to find information on classes on the website, so student input is really helpful. i was told by some other people that i could ask my advisor if i could take WTE science. do you know if that’s an option for a math major, and if so, is that something that would be worth taking?

WTE science is open to everyone regardless of major but it’s very difficult to get into the class as the seats for that course are very limited. There’s a special code that you need to get from your advisor to be able to register for the course (if you plan on taking WTE in the fall don’t worry about this because your advisor will register you for your fall classes but afterwards you’re on your own). I hear mix things about WTE science, some people say that it’s extremely hard and some say it’s easier than the regular WTE. I say if you’re into research and stuff go for it; take Professor Hamrick if you can.

@loveshodgybeats ahh okay then!! i may be taking wte in the spring, so i can ask around for more input during the fall! c: thanks for the help again
