Hi,
I am an incoming freshman going the Economics/Pre-Haas route and I had a question regarding what math I should take. I am taking the 16 series, but I have a 5 on the AP Calc BC exam, so I can skip a semester.
However, I have not taken calculus since sophomore year of high school, and even though 16 is easier than 1, I still would like to know whether I should take 16A my first semester or skip to 16B. Is the material in 16A necessary for 16B?
Thank you
1A is a prerequisite to 1B, and 16A is a prerequisite to 16B.
You can try old final exams for 1A, 1B, 16A, and 16B to check your knowledge:

Also see the math department’s page on AP exams:

However, if you took calculus in 10th grade and earned a 5 on the AP exam, you may want to consider the quantitative version of the economics major. But then you would need to take Math 53 and 54.
Note that a 5 on AP calculus BC fulfills the math requirement for the economics major, unless you want to choose the quantitative version. However, the business major will still require one math course from 16B, 1B, 53, or 54.
