Which teachers do you recommend for math 10a, chem 6a, and doc1?

@nicholep: to your first question I see, many Upper Div classes have prerequisites. As long as you fulfill those, you can take them. I actually find them easier than Lower Divs because Lower Divs are more broad surveys of general topics to give you background info and learn to write and think in the style of the discipline. Upper Divs are about going deeper into a topic and depending on your major, getting to know professors and grad students better. Easier/harder depends 90% on your professor/TA/graders.

to your second question I see: I came in undecided, and chose my major winter quarter freshman year, and have stuck with it since (I’m going into third year and graduating this year), but many people I know have changed a few times. Hope I could help!

Thanks so much. I have another question is it true that freshman have to take a freshman seminar?

^Not true, 10 char

How often are assignments required in printed form? Are there plenty of printers on campus for us to use? Are campus printers free? Trying to decide whether I should bring a printer with me (would really rather not).

@ArtDancer
I have been wondering the same thing. Is it better to bring your own printer or just buy a USB stick?

there are plenty of printers available for use around campus. no it costs money but unless you copy/print novels at a time, it won’t get too pricey. if you don’t want to bring one with you, then don’t.
i brought one last year because of the convenience factor but i won’t be bringing it again because it just takes up room.

I really liked having a printer because i would often stay up all night proofreading papers and it was convenient to not have to run across campus at 7 am to pick it up. I donno, I can’t imagine not having one but people do without them.

This is kind of an odd/embarrassing question, but do people actually shower with flip flops?

^Dude, yes. Don’t shower without flip flops or sandals of some sort it’s DISGUSTING

some do, some don’t. its just a matter of personal preference and what you’re comfortable with.
whether you do or don’t, you won’t be the only one.

I liked having my printer. Warren writing papers —> 4 A.M. —> not having to run to giesel to print before class = awesome.

Some people do and some people don’t. I normally just walk to the shower with my flip flops on and take them off in the actual shower. The showers aren’t that dirty…you’re only sharing with so many people.

I really want to bring a printer, but my parents keep trying to talk me out of it and tell me not to waist my money.

do you already have one to bring with you?

@paradise17
No, my family has one printer that everyone uses. I’m just worried about having to print things in the middle of the night. UCSD/La Jolla does strike my as a pretty safe area, but still I don’t want to have to worry.

tons of housing/dorm questions here. thanks for reading thru & replying!

what are the desks like? is it just a flat table? it seems like the desks have a space for the computer monitor and then shelves (something like this: http://www.pinecomputerdesk.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/pine-computer-desk-1.bmp). i hate messy desks & i like having letter trays and racks to put my paper, books, etc. but i’m not sure how much room i’ll have on the desk for trays & other organizers that take up some vertical space too.

about how much space is there under the beds, dimensionally? I’m bringing an underbed storage box but i don’t want it to be too high/big & not fit.

how useful are lap desks, the ones that you put on your lap so you have a flat surface for books & laptops to study in bed? is it good to buy one with a lamp attached, as the lighting might be bad in a bed?

doubles have two individual beds against each wall; triples have bunk beds, right?

is there room enough in a double or even triple for a small drawer stand, similar to this: http://www.stacksandstacks.com/images/product/reg-1238813118-20264.jpg

is there a bench/stand in the shower stalls for me to put my caddy on? I hate leaving it on the floor (clean freak here) so are there hooks & flat areas to hang clothes, put bath products, etc. in the shower stalls? also, do the stalls have shower curtains or doors?

Thanks so much for your help!

For Direct Deposit, should we link it it to our checkings or savings account? Does it matter?

Thanks everyone, I will be sure to wear flip flops. I was always told to wear them by family members an friends. Then recently some one said that only freaked out freshman wear them.

do things get stolen often from dorm rooms?
my friend’s older sister got underwear and leggings stolen from her laundry, (leggings kindof make sense, but underwear? really?) so i’m a little paranoid about people taking my stuff.

@fruitytart
I was wondering the same thing. I don’t want to have to worry about people stealing any of my things especially I they are expensive. Also, do people ever bring lock boxes
or safes or is that extreme?
