Incomparable W&M

How great is W&M?! Made the list for happiest students as well as best professors. Also, nationally ranked sports teams in football, soccer, tennis. Up and coming basketball and baseball teams. Beautiful campus, cool town, mild weather. Pageant winners, Rhodes Scholars, Super Bowl champ alums. All for public school price tag. Could W&M be the perfect school?

Its a great school, for those who can afford it. But the price tag? Its 45,000 for out of state. I wanted to apply, yet my parents recently broke the news that we will not be able to afford it. It is the perfect school for those fortunate enough to qualify for need based aid, or those who live in VA.
I thought it was my perfect school too.

Tuition is 17k a semester for OOS, much less than any comparable private school and similar to or better than comparable public schools.

For undergraduates interested in going on to grad or professional school, I agree that W&M is one of the best! Definitely the best state school.

W&M is truly a unique institution. The new buildings and renovations have done nothing but the school better and better.

the W&M community is superb

obviously it is not the same “steal” as an out of state student, but it is still a good deal, IMO.

Skydancer, you may want to explore whether or not you’re eligible for need-based aid. The $44,000. price tag is certainly not cheap but it is cheaper than most of our peers institutions and we do provide need-based aid to those who qualify.

W&M is an incredible institution combining some of the best aspects of small private liberal arts colleges (residential campus, small classes, faculty-student interaction) with the best aspects of a public university (research opportunities, diverse campus, slightly cheaper price tag).

Thank you W&M admission, my family is exploring options and other ways to aquire grants, loans, and aid. I don’t think we qualify, but I’m considering an ROTC scholarship which would allow me to attend W&M if accepted. Sorry for the outburst, this is just such a stressful time! W&M is priced well for the education, the location, and the size, and for many people, it is an excellent deal.

most importantly, 5th in commitment to undergraduate teaching.

Glad to hear you’re exploring all your options including ROTC. That’s the best way to go about it. It certainly is a stressful time but the good news is it all works out in the end.
