Inconsistent CR scores

Hey all,

I am preparing for the SAT and have so far done 8 practice tests (all of which are accurate because they are actual past papers written by CB). Here is a breakdown of the scores I got, in chronological order:

740 (diagnostic)

770

700

770

740

800

700

800

Somehow, my scores aren't showing an upward trend after taking additional tests. This is not the case for me with Math (800s) and Writing (750+ from a first 640). Although I have grown more comfortable with the format of the passages, I can't seem to be able to secure that high 700 for CR. Could someone show me some tips (I'm having more trouble with the passages than with the SC)?

CR is a very unstable sector of the SAT, and requires tenacious practice, and UNDERSTANDING. The reason CR is different from all the other parts of the test is because there is no formula or rules to follow. You either understand the passage or you don’t. In math, you use a formula for each question, a set of steps; for CR you have to understand, not only the passage, but that the question can range from 20349230492304923049234 topics. The main thing to do is find a way to answer each " type " of CR question. If it asks for a main idea, theres a certain way you need to look for it. The tone, you need to look for keywords. There is no quick fix. Find your mistakes, and look for the REASONS.

Thats all it is man. understand your mistakes, and correct them throughout exams.

Those scores (excepting 3 and 7) are pretty consistent. Do you still occasionally miss a Sentcom? Even missing one or two of those means you haven’t fully mastered vocab, and until you’ve fully mastered vocab, CR scores will wobble.

CR is always a roller-coaster.
