incorrect letter or acceptance or rejection

Today I received a call from the admissions office of one of the schools I applied to for Spring Transfer Admission. The deadline was only about two weeks ago so I was not expecting anything soon. I missed the call and the representative left me a voicemail. He said that they sent me an incorrect letter yesterday and wanted to call to say that they are sending the correct one today. So I should disregard the first one. Then he added that they are not allowed to discuss admissions decisions on the phone. I know they received all parts of my application, i got an e-mail telling me so about a week ago. When he added the "not allowed to discuss admissions decisions on the phone." I now immediately assume that this letter is concerning my decision. So what should i expect? Would they really accept me and then reject me....and if they rejected me why would they turn around and change their mind the next day. I'm in a little bit of a panic. I somehow don't have a good feeling about this, but the possibility of acceptance now has me anxious.

The humor in me is that now i might get both an accepted and rejected letter from the same school...I bet not too many people get to say that. The annoying thing is i can't check online, no e-mail...just sit and wait for these letters.

that’s so cruel not telling you over the phone

i have a hard time believing they would send you an acceptance letter then a rejection letter so i’m optimistic for you

update this when you find out because it is interesting

I don’t think it’s a matter of them changing their minds about your decision, rather they probably sent the wrong letter to you initially, realized their mistake, and then sent the correct letter. Acceptance and Rejection letters are not personalized for each applicant. They have a list that says which students should get rejection letters and which should get acceptance letters, so it’s not unlikely that someone made up and sent the wrong letter to you.

So is that to say that I have an equal shot at getting accepted or rejected. Because I must say that if I recieve an acceptance letter and then a rejection letter I can’t help but believe that the world hates me. That’s an exaggeration, but I mean even if its just an honest mistake…it just made my rejection that much worse. I want to believe that my luck isn’t that bad…but then again maybe it is. we’ll see

Very tough to wait… very tough.

My guess … the “wrong” one was the rejection and the right one, coming later, is the acceptance. And the phone call was to “correct” the bad news without saying so. I just think that’s the main reason they’d make the call ahead of time.

I could be wrong. But I hope not.

Try to think about other things (easy for me to say).

I received a rejection letter from Michigan 2 years ago and got a call about a month later after receiving my initial decision saying that they gave me the wrong decision and I was accepted and the letter was in the mail. Thank god they told me over the phone that I was in

So what happened??

The first letter was a letter stating that I was not eligible for Spring Transfer because applicants need at least one year (24 credit hours) to transfer. This surprised me because I have 49 completed credits and another 21 in process. About 90% should be transferable too. I transfered schools after my freshman year to attend community college, so i’m guessing they didn’t connect that I had two college transcripts. The second letter was a rejection saying that after an initial review I did not meet the admission criteria for Spring Admission. So it was pretty disappointing, especially considering I have a 3.9 GPA, 1350 SATs, and alot of extracurriculars on my app. I’m trying to find out more because in all honestly it isn’t known for being the most competitive school out there and I really wanted to go there. It is ranked as the 4th best public school in my state. The avg. SAT scores for Freshman is 1150, and they say on their application that 3.0 is considered competitive for transfer admission. They also boast a 66% acceptance rate for transfers, (however that is for Fall, so Spring is probably lower I guess.) But anyways thats the way it ended. I doubt it is gonna be changed even after I talk with their admissions office.

The letters came one day apart…So it doesn’t seem to look like they took much time to review my application

What school did u apply too?
I can’t believe that they rejected 3.9 GPA.

James Madison University

I’m in-state and a legacy as well…I’m hopeful that maybe something went wrong with my review and their was a mix-up but I dont know…I was really hoping to go there

Is it possibly just a “capacity” issue… is, no spots for spring? But spots would be available for you/your stats for fall?
