increase your chances at UNC?

How can an applicant increase his or her chances of getting in UNC-chapel hill? For ex, In-state vs. out of state, minority status, gender... and other factors you would like to comment on also. Thank You in advance.

well from what i've seen, if you are in-state, your chances are better. i'm not totally positive, but i think most public universities accept more in-state students and i just think that they have a better chance.

Yeah, from everything I've seen its like 50 times easier to get into UNC if you're from North Carolina. Thats true for about every state school, except WVU ( its 51% In State, 49% Out of State).

Well, it is easier for an in-state (vs out of state) simply because UNC accepts 82% in-state; however, Chapel Hill, as the flagship university, is a much more difficult acceptance in-state than the other schools in the UNC system, and it is getting more selective every year for the in-state applicants.

Just to clarify to the original poster what Jack said, UNC's freshman class is 82% people from NC (UNC doesn't accept 82% of NC applicants). I know that is what Jack meant, but when I read it, it sounded like the second way so I just wanted to clarify : )

Oops...sorry. Yes, you're correct, Soccergirl. That's what I meant. Thanks for clarifying!

thanks so much u guys. This really does help me a lot.
