Did anyone here experience a sharp increase on the math score? If yes, how did you study for it?

I went from a 660 to a 710 w/The Princeton Review Cracking the SAT Book. It may not be a sharp increase, but it shows that even if your score is already high, you can still go up.

where did you get the princeton review cracking the Sat book??? did you buy it online or do they have them at book stores and libraries?

I got it a Barnes and Noble. It was $20 well spent.

I went from a 620 to a 710; I think that's a sharp increase.

I honestly didn't do all that much. I really focused on going fast, and solving the problems that I can always get right if I had more time. I worked mostly on the free-response questions, which usually end up killing me.

Hope this helps! Perfect practice makes perfect.

630 to a 710. I used princeton review practice tests and just tried to do a section of problems 3 or 4 times a week. It really helps to learn the types of problems and the concepts.

Would you say the same for CR?

I also think my math score was by means of luck. I was lucky in the fact that I knew the "tricky" problems, for the most part.

640 to 770 (sharp indeed). I used Barron's math workbook and the Blue Book; I finished half the Barrons book, working about 1 lesson/day through the summer, and also took the math sections of 7 Blue Book tests (2 of them in the weeks preceding the test). Note that although there was about a year between the first test and the retake, I was scoring in the low 600s on practice tests at the beginning of the summer so I believe the increase was mostly due to studying.

i increased math from 600 to 670 and writing from 570 to 710 just by taking ONE practice test

I think i read somewhere that on average a person can only increase their score up to 300 total, which is discouraging. What do you guys think about this?

It seems like there are a lot of 710s (which is a good thing).

Destinos, I'm not sure where your 300 cutoff is coming from, but I'm pretty sure that the CB investigates any people whose scores rose at least 300 points from a previous testing. Maybe this is what you mean.

Ya...people can gain over 300 points in the course of their testing.

It's called studying and practicing.

yeah i was surprised too when i heard this. Well with all the threads i saw about people's score increasing dramatically, i would say that the sources where i got the idea from is unreliable lol... well that's good... i still have time to study :)

from 680 to 770. did nothing.

I think it's possible to raise your score by over 300 points. You might have been really tired when you took it the first time, or you were just too young to be taking it in the first place. I know people that took the SAT reasoning test as freshmans. They were in some gifted program, but no one expected them to get over 500. I did an SAT practice test when I was a freshman, and I did much better than I thought I would. Really, it all depends on the student.
