I took the ACT this past summer(I am a junior right now) and got a 23. I was recently told If if get a 28 I can get a good scholarship at the school I am looking at. I have only taken it once and I am taking it this December test coming up. I know that practice test are really the only preparation method, but do you have any other tips? My main question here is: what are the chance of increasing my ACT from a 23 to 28? I would like to get my preferred score before my Senior year so I have three more trys to get at 28. (December, February, and April test)

Go for it. The chances depend on your determination! When I first took it, I scored a 22; now I have a 27( 5 point jump ). Keep studying and you will get there. There will possible be someone on here that says your chances are slim, but I did it, so why can’t you? Good luck.

What were your sub scores?

Math: 21 science: 23 reading: 23 english: 25

I got a 20 on my first score, then a 26. You should take a lot of practice. ACT English Brain Boost is really good for English Section. Also Schaum’s for Math.

My daughter took it as a jr in February and got a 29C. At that time she said there was a lot of math that she had not yet done in class. When she took it again in Sept of her senior year she got a 31. All of her scores in each category went up, but her biggest jump was in math. Your score will probably go up just by taking it again, but your highest scores are likely to come at the end of your jr. year. You have lots of opportunities. Good luck!

D took the ACT in June of her sophomore year. Got a 27. Took it again in October of her junior year. Got another 27. Then she decided to really STUDY - not intensely but consistently. She didn’t try to cram for the exam (that didn’t work the second time). She looked at the subsection scores for specific weaknesses to correct. She took ONE section test a week, looked over her mistakes and studied a bit. She did this over 3 or 4 months. As the test date got closer, she did the entire ACT exam over a week’s time, but limited it to one section a day. She never took the entire exam in a single day until the actual exam.

Took it again June of her junior year. Got a 31. She was done.
