Independent/Dependant Status

Hey All, I'm new to the board.....

I wanted to know if anyone knew the steps to declaring independant status as it relates to the fasfa. I am 22 and my mother will not provide any of her tax info so I can complete the financial aid paperwork. I am at a fork in the road because I really need this money to complee my deegree.

Would I have to speak to the financial aid counselor at the school I'm interested in attending and what are my chances?

In order to be considered an independent student you must meet the following criteria

Independent vs. Dependent Student Determination

Dependent students must include information concerning themselves and their parents when completing the FAFSA. If a student answers "no" to all of the following questions they are considered dependent and therefore, must include parental information:
[ul]
[]Were you born before January 1, 1982?
[]Are you a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces?
[]Will you be enrolled in a graduate or professional program (beyond a bachelor's degree in 2005-06)? (There are no programs offered at CCBC beyond the bachelor level.)
[]Are you married?
[]Do you have children who receive more than half of their support from you?
[]Are you an orphan or ward of the court, or were you a ward of the court until age 18?
[li]Do you have dependents (other than your children or spouse) who live with you and who receive more than half of their support from you, now and through June 30, 2006? [/li][/ul]

I know and I'm none of these but my parent does not contribute to any of my living and won't give me her tax info.
