Independent/dependent csumentor application question. PLEASE HELP!

Hello all. I am finished with my application, except for one poorly set up question. I am 24 years old, so that makes me independent. But I still live with my parents, so I don't know what to put under "What is the total size of your household?"* If I say I made $8000 this year, yet state that I have 3 people in my house, that looks sketchy. But I don't feel like I should put one, as that isn't true. Please help me out!

*"Your household includes yourself, spouse or registered domestic partner, other dependent children, and other dependents."

Why? Look at the definition you gave of household size and read it literally. Assuming you don’t have a spouse/partner or children, and your parents are not your legal dependents, then your household size is 1.

The fact that you are living in a house owned by your parents is immaterial, household size has to do with the number of people you have some sort of financial responsibility for, not the physical structure you reside in.

That is what I was figuring, thank you for clearing that up.

Just because you are 24 doesn’t mean you are independent. If your parents pay for more than 51% of your living expenses then you are considered dependent by the IRS.

But if you are independent, then just state your total income.

But the OP is not talking about taxes, CSUMentor are based on FAFSA:

[CSUMentor - Plan for College - EOP - EOP Income Criteria](<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU)

And the FAFSA definition of independent/dependent is different than for taxes:

[Will I need my parents’ information?](http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/fotw1213/help/fftoc02k.htm)

If the OP turned 24 in 2012, they were born before Jan 1989.

Please read the OP carefully, CSUMentor is asking for BOTH total income and number of household members.
