I've been really wanting to get involved in something outside of my classes. The two main clubs I wanted to join are either not active or the teacher isn't putting in much work to it so I guess that kind of sucks the fun out of it. I know I could start my own club if I wanted to but you need a teacher to stay behind and monitor the club and ofcourse that's not as easy as it sounds... (can't remember what's that called, a club advisor?) I also thought about joining a spring sport but the problem is my school is on an A/B schedule so apparently we have to take 8 finals at the end of the year which count for a big portion of your grade. There are classes where I know I will need to put in as much time and effort as possible to prepare for them so I don't want to jepardize my scores by having to stay after school until 5 then have games that run into the night.

I apologize if it sounds like excuse after excuse but hey....that's just the situation I'm in right now.

Could you guys please give me possible ideas as to what independent ec's I could work on on my own? Any subject is okay I'm honestly just trying to get my brain running and at least get an idea of something I could possibly persue with interest.

Right now I want to explore subjects like political science, law (perhaps?), anything cultural or involves learning other cultures, things like that… (doesn’t look like a big variety, again I apologize)
Generally I also like to help people but I think that’s more on the lines of volunteer?

I wanted to get involved in MUN and a feminism club.

You could page a House of Representative at your state house
Or intern at your mayor’s office
Attend Debate camp (I’m a little bit iffy at the idea though, but I heard some people love it)

See if you can volunteer for your state level representative or senator (not sure what state you are in or what your state government looks like). So even if you don’t live in the state capitol, the rep for your district to state government might need some help with something. You just missed an election cycle, so there would have been more opportunities this last summer and fall to help with elections. But you can see if they need help.

Do you study a foreign language at school? Is there a club for that language? You could start one, the language teacher might be willing to stay after school once a week or help you meet over lunch or something. Just do fun things like cook food from the countries where the language is spoken, learn ethnic dances, watch movies with subtitles, celebrate holidays like they do in those countries, etc. Our school actually has a multicultural fair every year where they do the following:
Have tables with people from different cultures with things to show, demonstrations, etc.
They have lots of food – they get donations from local ethnic restaurants (it is pretty crazy getting people to run around and pick the stuff up on the afternoon of the evening of the event!). People pay like $5 for a buffet of food.
They have some local ethnic dance and music groups come in and perform.

That would be a LOT of work, but a fantastic EC to hold one of these at your school. :)
