India Class of 2015 Results Thread (RD)

^ Which olympiad was it? P-C-M ?

I know the names of those in the olympiad (and they were from kolkata) but they were not related to fiitjee.
On the other hand, there are students from fiitjee who bagged olympiad medals but they were not from kolkata.
Can’t find a connection.

congrats perfectpixie and desperado! Wow you guys must be amazing students. Now I think we’re all in the same boat waiting for the rest of the decisions…

3x international olympiad medalist since 10th grade? What the HELL am I doing with MY life man?

By the way, how is this thread any different from the other?

^Hahaha. It’s not.

First of all congratulations pixie! I just wanted to say I got accepted at UIUC and Caltech! Though i got rejected EA at Stanford :frowning: Anyway im wondering if there are any people from India who got into Caltech cause its currently my number one choice(fingers crossed for April 1st too). Also do you think i should choose Caltech over Cambridge? Cause caltech seems very hardcore and I just think i was super lucky to get in. Im not one of those crazy international olympiad medallists or anything so im a bit apprehensive about going there>.< Well i guess things might change if I get some good news on April 1st but yeah thats it! Here’s also wishing everyone the best of luck for April Fools’ though it’ll probably be 2nd for us here in Hindustan :)

Thank you Nemo, Tippu, itsmylife, Desperado (high five there, you deserved it girl!), Chromey, Ani, Puttu (hi!) and MysticGohan (dragonballz?;)).

I just got Waitlisted at Rice University. Getting tired of seeeing the same lines repeated again and again. Dunno whether I should feel thankful that I’ve gotten no rejection yet, or upset at all the w/ls. I’m settling for feeling irritated.
I have a feeling fin aid is the reason behind this.
W/l at uchicago, WUStL, Rice, and a Deferral at Yale SCEA (which defers everyone, dang it). And acceptance at MHC. Total tally.

gohan: Congrats on your admissions! You’re good either ways!
Btw assuming it’s Ivy decisions that you’re talking about, they come out on 30th March, not 1st april this time. Which means, early 31st morning here. Anyway, no Ivy school engineering stands a chance against Caltech engineering so I may be wrong in assuming you’re talking Ivies?

^ Financial aid is THE whole darn reason… I mean, to be or not to be happy about the fact, that had paid our way through, we would have been sitting pretty with acceptances and not straddling the fence like this…

Wait list is so nerve-wracking… Sheesh… And I cant even decided whether or not to let go… Can anybody tell me, when in the world a wait list can come to fruition??

Aww, Pix… Financial aid is such a b*tch. :frowning:

BTW, how many colleges have you applied to?

And I think choosing between the Ivies and Caltech isn’t an easy decision. Specially if Harvard/Princeton are the Ivies in question. I mean lots of science/math/engineering people DO choose Harvard (Math 55, hello?!) over MIT. But yeah, no engineering major would choose Yale over MIT.

@desperado28
I’ve heard that sometimes waitlistees(?) have to wait a rather long wait until mid-June. But if you are lucky, you’ll hear from your college come first week of may. :)

^Yep.
Btw, from what I hear, Rice started giving significant aid to internationals only from last year’s incoming batch or so. So, Rice, I was full on expecting a rejection since I’m asking for very significant amount of aid.
And you don’t want to know.

RICE
Waitlisted.

@Pixie
That reminds me, I forgot to ask you about this:

What makes you think you’re asking for much more aid than me? :P

CSF

Sorry to hear. Did you apply for aid too?

And I think wait-lists are in blue not yellow. :|

^w/l is yellow only!

Remember you told me you’re applying to Purdue? They don’t give aid right?

^ oh I was seeing this decisions thread and they had posted w/l in blue. ANYWAY. :p

Yep, I applied to Purdue but only because I knew they give scholarships even though they say then don’t :p

I have loads of friends in Purdue, and they say that almost every Indian they know is on a scholarship from 2nd year on.

Pixie, the very fact that you’re getting waitlisted everywhere just shows how good an applicant you really are. Colleges never give false hope to people… Most of them. So just accept your spot and most of them should turn into acceptances!

Dude Purdue gives scholarships? I didn’t know about this… At the time of admission? How much? I’m curious.

Thanks Pixie! And yeah dragonballz  Itsmylife’s right though, but not sure Harvard would really compare in Engineering to MIT, Stanford and Caltech. I mean yeah it has Math 55 but you know only about 10-15 students take that course so for all intents and purposes its not really something that should determine if you wanna go there. You’re right about Princeton being of similar calibre though and yeah I got my fingers crossed for that one although I am aware that calling it extremely difficult would be an understatement. Anyway maybe if i get rejected the decision will be made for me, but wheres the fun in that? And Pixie dont worry about getting waitlisted, it shows you’re really good. To be honest there were a lot of people far more able than I who were passed over so its quite arbitrary. Dont worry you’re about to get lucky soon :)

I second Aniruddh’s statement. The fact that you haven’t been outright rejected means they see a lot in you, and due to financial or spacial (i.e. they don’t have enough seats…this is probably not the right syntax) reasons they couldn’t admit you. Don’t lose hope, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you and I am absolutely positive you will get in to several great schools.
I got my UBC admissions packet yesterday and I was grinning like a fool
Agreed with the financial aid bit though. The thought that I could have had a significantly higher chance had I not applied for aid is…saddening, to say the least. My counselor apologized for not understanding my aid situation well enough. Oh well :|

@pixie and compscifan Don’t worry a wait list is always better than a flat out rejection.

@mysticgohan:- Congratulations and also if you do not mind could you share your Stats?

@Violator: I did my high school in Singapore so I dont know if my stats would be of much consequence to the others here. I got a SAT superscore of 2260 and got 800 in Math II, Physics and Chemistry. Despite studying in S’pore though, im pretty sure I was considered with the actual Indian applicant pool.
