Congratulations to both of you!
@dancingjuicedesu: what were your stats? Did you apply with FA?

CONGRATULATIONS !!! Way to Go-p25india, AppCruncher, dancingjuicedesu

Great way to start the innings. I am happy for you guys and am sure your parents will be so proud right now. I know how it feels. I am sure from here on it will be good news for all applicants.

Good luck everyone…

@anialways: Okaaaay, thanks for the nice wishes but I haven’t been accepted anywhere yet! All I meant was I have applied to Princeton under SCEA. Results in 2 days, 10 hours, 11 minutes (yep I have a countdown set) and I can hardly stay sane. And your post just makes me want to cry because ALL I want is to be in a state worth being congratulated on friday!!!

@p25india: I’ve applied with FA. I’ll definitely post my stats if the Princeton God takes me
and congratulations for Stanford! Are you withdrawing your other apps now?

oh p25, just saw your earlier post that answers my last question, I must be half blind :/

dancingjuicedesu

Ooops… But you know what, I will post this again in 2 days, 10 hours, 11 minutes.

^I’m highly confused as to what that meant…awkward but in case you are being nice, thanks!

Yes I am being nice and honest and what I mean is that there is no reason for you not to make it. And I meant that I will post the Congratulatory post again in 2 days.

Having said that I will also say whatever happens it is all good. There are enough good fits for everyone. So just hope for the best and have options A, B, C and so on ready, all those places should be the ones where you will be happy and trust me there is no dearth of choices. Do not get attached to any one place till you get accepted to one.

dancingjuicedesu, p25india, anialways thanks a ton for your wishes. Btw P25india what’s up with your SAT 1 score?

@anialways: thank you very much. :)

1day 7hours 11minutes
=) :O

@AppCruncher, I took ACT instead of SAT and my ACT score is 35 composite.

@HCaulfield: Harvard SCEA? Gooood luck! :)

p25india and dancingjuicedesu

Can you please elaborate on the procedure and the prerequisites for an international applicant to apply for financial aid for MIT/Princeton/Harvard/Caltech/Berkeley/Yale?

1) should it be mentioned in common app/MIT app form while applying or can it be addressed AFTER one gets the offer?

2) is there any minimum salary requirement to even apply for it or is it open for all irrespective of the financial status?

3) If one had not asked for it, would it never be possible to get it later?

5) Would the chances of getting an offer get impacted in any way if one applies for FA? In other words, if one does not apply for FA to the above institutions, would the chances be higher?

Thank you so much for your elaborate reply and congratulations p25 for your well deserved offer at Stanford! (Does your school offer both A levels and AP classes since you seem to have both of them?)

^But I haven’t even posted a reply yet, let alone an elaborate one
Anyhow, please keep in mind that the answers are to the best of my knowledge and I am no expert.

Every university has its own procedures, and usually if you go to the FA section of their website you can find the entire procedure and requirements in great detail in a pdf or on the website itself. Usually, you need to submit the CSS/PROFILE or the ISFAA.

1)Should be mentioned on the Common App. Future Plans section.
2)Open to all. They’ll just give you the amount of FA they deem required according to your family’s income. Some (like Harvard I think) have a FA calculator or something similar that tells you how much you can expect.
3)Nope. But I’m slightly unsure on this one.
4) (and not 5 :P) each university has its own FA policy. Only in the case of the need-blind schools (like the Ivies) does your requirement for FA not affect your decision. Mainly because their endowments are huge. Berkeley is a college that offers no FA to international students at all. Sad.

Maybe these will help you:

[HowStuffWorks “Ivy League Financial Aid”](<a href=“How Ivy League Admissions Work | HowStuffWorks”>How Ivy League Admissions Work | HowStuffWorks)

Please correct me if I’m wrong somewhere guys. It would add to my knowledge too :)

Thanks a lot, @dancing… you are very helpful

1) If the school is need-blind, then why would any international applicant (even if their family income is way too high) not want to opt for FA? (since you said it is open to all)

2)If that is the case, why is there even a check box asking if one wants FA or not? As everyone with a big family income also would choose to opt for it.

3) you said it is typically mentioned in commonapp future plans section WHILE applying. How about for MIT (as they don’t have commonapp and don’t see any specific part in their app about FA).

If someone had not asked for FA while applying to Ivies (which are need-blind), does it mean he/she lost the opportunity to get FA?

@query123: 1. you have to mention in your application whether u want to apply for FA or not. U can not apply for FA after your decision.
2. Out of your list of universities, for Berkely we as Intl. are not eligible for FA as it is a public school.
3. Caltech and Stanford are need sensitive for Intl. So if u ask for FA it will affect your admission.
4. Harvard, Princeton, yale, MIT are need blind for us too. So, we can apply for FA without it affecting our admission decision.
5. Every university has their own calculators for calculating our needs according to our parents’ incomes and savings.

Short Question: is there any harm in sending SAT 2 Scores to universities that don’t ask for them? And by not asking, I don’t mean universities that say its recommended or optional, but those that don’t mention them at all.

No harm at all if your scores are good

And what happened to those who applied REA Princeton or Harvard?
No news at all!!

Thanks p25!
