India Early Decision Results

Congrats! Tippu. But why didn’t you post your acceptance on decision thread for these colleges?

Thanks ivycollege. I didn’t post here because mine wouldn’t be a valuable data point for current or future applicants from India. Bar is set a lot higher for international students. (In case you didn’t know, I am not an Indian.)

Tippu: The american who puts 99.99999999% of the Indian populace to shame with regards to knowledge about Indian culture

lmao. He definitely hinted it here ivycollege. I doubt Harry is such a good friend of his. ;)

@Ani, I think you’ve embarassed him enough. :stuck_out_tongue: He’ll stop with the interesting bits of information about the country we live in if you continue.

Accepted to:

  1. University of Pennsylvania, SEAS. Major = Mechanical Engineering.
    Applied ED
    Will Attend.
Reason : I aspire an Investment Banker but I wanted to pursue my favourite subjects Physics and Mathematics for undergraduation. Thus Penn was the perfect choice for me as the One University concept will allow me to study econ/finance/management from any of Penn’s colleges while also majoring in the subjects I love. Also, Ill try and transfer to M&T ( I know its hard but its the PERFECT thing for me). Also, its an IVY.

2) University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. School of Engineering (Preferred Admit to Ross). Major: Mechanical Engineering
Applied EA
Will not attend.
Reason: Got in ED to Penn
For those curious, if I had gotten in rd to both I would have still picked Penn. I know many will will blast me for this but an IVY league education is VERY important to make it big in Wall Street.

3) University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. College of Engineering. Major: Computer Engineering
Applied Priority Admission
Will not Attend
Reason: Got in ED to Penn
For those curious, if I had gotten in rd to both I would have still picked Penn. Illinois wont get you far in Investment Banks.

Really?
I’m not totally familiar with job opportunities and recruiting for Wall Street, but even students from CUNY Baruch or Bank Street College “make it pretty big on Wall Street”…I guess it comes down to experience?

Anyway, doesn’t matter. You got into Penn - Congrats!

yeah thats very subjective to the persons quality. What my point is that an IVY League education give you a hugeee head start. So if a great person goes to an IVY he will end up further that a great person from CUNY Baruch. The starting salaries are much higher for IVY graduates.

Thanks!!

^^^

LOL. What was that for …

I figured its an Indian thread so why not stir the patriotism ?? xD

Congrats on your admissions chelsearox.
I disagree though, an Ivy education is in no way better than that at all other schools. I could name plenty of Ivy schools that are equal or even better in terms of undergraduate education (not that I have any intention of putting you down) and in terms of the ‘start’ they give you. Bdw, a similar debate has already taken place on this forum and is now dead and buried. (I don’t remember which thread.)

Um Don’t write Ivy in caps like the ‘Ivy League’ is some sort of big deal. The conference includes schools like Cornell and I think everyone knows what Cornell’s standards are.

Anyways, Congratulations on Penn! :)

You don’t even need to go to college to make it big on the Wall Street

What do you mean by that?

by saying that an Ivy League (Happy PrincetonDreams ?? ) education gets you far in Wall Street I was comparing it to UMich and Illinois. Stanford, Duke, UCB, Cal Tech, MIT and Chicago are as good as Ivys but I don’t feel too many other schools can claim to be upto that standard. Moreover I feel that Duke and UCB don’t deserve to be in that list.

Thanks for the congratulations though!! Means a lot.

LMAO, that was a joke related to my “incessant condescension for Cornell.” Clearly, it didn’t come off so well. :)

If you’re interested in I-Banking, why didn’t you apply to Wharton?

Congratulations on Penn chelsearox!
I largely agree with what Pixie said-can’t really talk about Wall Street, but an Ivy League education isn’t the gold standard by any means. There are plenty of non-Ivies that offer just as good, if not better education and opportunities. I suppose it comes down to personal preference in the end.

Ugh. I hate this ivy league pandering. Obviously, here i’m getting defensive because i’m mostly attending UChicago. I wouldn’t take ANY of the Ivies over UofC. Why? Because from the top Universities, UofC fits me the best. Also, I don’t mean to stir a debate here, but I would say it’s undergrad is better than the undergrad at a lot of ivies.

@Chealsearox: Congratulations  That is an amazing achievement. A lot of people from my school applied ED to Penn, and 5 people got rejected and 2 deferred, and these people are brilliant. Plus, our HS is a total UPenn feeder school.

^ I don’t understand the inferiority complex exhibited here on CC by people connected with uchicago - past/current/future students and their parents. It is a simple fact that uchicago lacks name recognition and it is easier to get admitted there compared most Ivy league schools. Moreover, given a choice, most people at uchicago would be thrilled to go to HYPS.
Does this make uchicago an inferior institute? No. Why does this alleged “ivy league pandering” bother you if you are happy with your situation?

I bet more people from India would have applied for EA if they had need blind admission policy for international applicants.

^ I suppose you’ve nailed the issue - UChicago doesn’t have much of a name. Although i refute your point that it is ‘easier’ to get into compared to most ivy schools, this year they are going to have a 15% acceptance rate, which is comparable to most ivys save HYPS. That too considering that UChicago is relatively self selecting. I’m not sure what basis you have to say that most people at UChicago would be thrilled to go to HYPS. A decent number of students choose UChicago over, say, Stanford. I’ll tell you why the ‘ivy league pandering’ bothers me, because it undermines a lot of other great institutions, especially liberal arts colleges, and I feel the high level of pandering can be misleading. Why shouldn’t it bother me? Doesn’t it bother you?

I suppose so more would have applied… although very very few schools have a need blind policy for international students.

It is definitely easier to get into uchicago. If you write good essays and have reasonably good GPA & SAT score then you have a good chance. There is no need for extraordinary ECs with leadership roles to get into uchicago.

I feel that your whining actually hurts the image of uchicago. Take the high road.

I admit that I don’t have solid data to support this claim. However, this is the impression I got talking to several people who got admitted to uchicago and also looking at the admitted threads here on CC.

In what way does this pandering undermine other institutions?

I keep hearing that most Ivys have need blind policy for all.

No, it doesn’t bother me a bit. I know enough about that institution to feel good and I don’t care for uninformed opinions.

I didn’t apply to Wharton because I wanted to study engineering for undergraduation. For an IB all I need is an awesome MBA from a top top school.
Its always suggested to do what you love for undergrad and do what you need to for post grad.

As far as the UChicago ddebate goes I feel its wonderful for Econ and can definately claim to be better reputed than Cornell, Darthmouth and Brown.
Don’t get an infiority complex just cause you arn’t going to an Ivy. Ivys help for IBs (my view) but Stanford, MIT and UChic are also just as good.
Sorry CalTech, UCB and Duke people. I just feel these three arn’t quite in the forthmentioned league.
