UPenn-Low chance/reach
Duke-reach
Uminnesota( Accepted)
UT Austin-High match/decent chance
Cornell-High match/decent chance

Illinois IT-Safety
UCLA and UC Davis- UCLA would be difficult, UC Davis should be easy for you

In all your stats and grades are good, though the SAT is slightly on the lower side. However if you get into UT Austin, UCLA, UC Davis or Illinois IT, would you be able to afford it?

@michaelite:

Dunno why I applied to UC. Illinois IT has a few merit schlolarships for internationals, should be easy to get.

UT Austin: Small departmental scholarships and a part-time job should be enough. I will try to establish Domicile in texas after a year to be eligible for in state tuition.

@Prabhu1998‌ Is that possible?..I too am looking for departmental scholarships at UT Austin

Other users, keep this thread alive. AND also please realise the fact that on this thread you are being chanced by fellow Indian students, so don’t take anything on face value or as certain. All of us are students like you. All we can do is give you a decent estimate of your chances, but college admissions are so unpredictable especially at the top schools that anything may happen, ie, you might get accepted at Stanford or you might get rejected at Purdue. But, this thread is just an endeavour to give everybody a general idea of their chances.

Also don’t release your personal information to anybody on this website, there are many jealous people around.

All the best, and keep this thread rolling.

5)Georgia Tech
6)UIUC
7)UW at Seattle

@vinvsv97‌ The fact that you did not apply for FA should get you into UCLA, GATech and UIUC. As far as other colleges(except UW) are concerned, I just don’t know how you can make it. Your ECs not at all show interest towards your intended major. Plus, the SAT 1 and 2 scores are on the lower end of the spectrum of the scores that you would expect the admitted international students to have.

@vinvsv97‌ Your SAT scores and grades are good, if not spectacular. Your EC’s , especially in athletics are good, so in all you appear to be a solid applicant. Only thing is your scores are slightly low for internationals, otherwise they are pretty good.

1)UCB - High Match/Slightly low chance
2)UCLA-Match/very good chance
3)Carnegie Mellon- Match/Good chance
4)Cornell-Low reach/low chance
5)Georgia Tech-High match (tougher form internationals_
6)UIUC-Match/should get in
7)UW at Seattle- No idea

@michaelite‌ You do no that @vinvsv97‌ is applying to CMU SCS which is incredibly tough to get into in the first place. I wouldn’t call CMU a “match”

@mumbai98‌ On the contrary it has a higher acceptance rate than Berkeley and the fact that the is not applying for aid makes him a very well suited applicant in my opinion. Might be wrong though. As I said earlier, we are all amateurs in this.

@mumbai98 yeah… i do agree cmu will be a long shot. I really just hope i get into either ucb or ucla

@vinvsv97‌ UCLA has an international student acceptance rate of just under 30%. So if you don’t need any aid, I would reckon your chances are very high.

@michaelite That is good to hear. Thanks!

UCLA has an international acceptance rate of 17.66%. Google “Profile of Admitted Freshmen 2014”
Sorry to burst your bubble haha

@awoodenbowl‌ Thats is the percentage of international students on campus…Acceptance rate is near 30%

@awoodenbowl‌ Sorry…you’re right…I had seen the stats for 2012

Colleges applying to:MIT,Stanford,CMU,Caltech,Georgia tech,Princeton
Also I don’t know how to go about financial aid so help would certainly be appreciated

@ronakice, did you apply this year or are you going to apply next year? Also, you might want to remove the FITJEE student off your EC list. That is plain absurd.

I applied. That part is not in my list ,no need to worry(not a really proud one tbh).

@ronakice‌ Dude you would have been a very competitive applicant to most of your choices had your SAT score been decent. Sorry, if it sounds rude, but 2040 is just too low. Apart from Georgia Tech your chances are quite low. Other than the SAT your application is solid.

Also, for financial aid every college has its own process, so you would have to check on their websites, but one thing is common to all, the College Board CSS form, which you have to submit everywhere before 1st of February.

http://financialaid.stanford.edu/undergrad/apply/ thats the link for Stanford financial aid.

Yeah I understand no problems. I went down with a flu the day before SAT (the second time I took it) and I believe the ACT was a better fit for me.
