Indian applying to the top colleges in USA. What are the chances?

@Deebthik‌ I would urge you to apply to University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign…It is a top 10 ranked college for engineering on most lists…Has an excellent alumni network…And a pretty high acceptance rate (near 60%), though is may be slightly lower for internationals…

@Deebthik Do not miss out on UIUC and University of Washington plus I think your GPA will hurt more than your scores, you’re CBSE if I am not wrong? many students apply with a perfect 10. That said your Computer ec is very impressive, kind of similar to mine.
I think your GPA will keep you out of the UC’s but you certainly have a shot at other places with your ec’s.

@Bored1997 Yeah I am worried about the same fact about my GPA. I am in CBSE. So according to you, which are the colleges where I stand a chance?

Be in the good books of your counselor and get a stellar expected marksheet for your 12th boards then maybe your chances will increase with an upward trend.
MIT- Do not get your hopes up it’s a crapshoot, if you reaaallly want to get in give your regional informatics and mathematics olympiad try to qualify for the international one’s make it your life goal for the next months then you might get in.
Stanford- low chance, High Reach
UCB- Gpa will hurt A LOT under the Uc system
Purdue- Match
GTech- same as UC

Drop Harvard and apply to CMU if you are really serious about Computer Science.

@Bored1997‌ What about Caltech, Princeton and Columbia?

@Bored1997‌ And what can I do to improve my chances for Stanford because I have always wanted to go there?
And can I improve my GPA now?

@Deebthik‌ @Bored1997‌ What is an expected marksheet? My counsellor submitted my transcript and filled out the school report and everything, but said that he was not asked to fill out anything like an expected marksheet for 12th. He just sent in my 12th half yearly grades, along with my grades from 9th to 11th. Do I need to talk to him about this?

No I am afraid the GPA is a lost cause Caltech is going to be a reach due to scores, Princeton is getting harder for internationals every year and Columbia is also a reach. You can do nothing as specific as for MIT but start your essays early.

You are just not getting it. Did you even read MYOS’s post? He spelled it out for you. It seems as though you really want to receive a lot of rejections. Read the advice from the experienced posters with thousands of responses.

You don’t appear to want to hear the truth and only want to hear from well-wishers who give you what you want to hear.

Get over it.

Your chances are not that great being an international student with scores that are not within the cutoff for merit. You won’t get into Stanford. It’s not gonna happen because your current scores are a predictor of a rejection.

What you should be doing, instead up constantly “bumping” is working on practice tests and getting your grades up. But instead, you’re on CC trying to convince everyone to say that you will “get in”. When they say the opposite, you add even tougher schools and ignore the advice of people who have seen the process for years.

Get over it.

@michaelite it is nothing of that gravity you can send it optionally in the final report section but the real marksheet is required after admission in short no you do not need to unless you feel he will give you a percentage above 96.

@Bored1997‌ He would give an extremely good gradesheet, as I topped the school in half yearlies. So, if I talk to him and he gives me a great score, would that be a great help?

If you already have good marks on your transcript you do not need it, I only suggested it to him because of his lack of excellence in a few areas it probably won’t affect that much for you. @michaelite

@aunt bea You must understand that his EC’s are great and he has loads of time to improve his SAT score. But, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

@Bored1997‌ Thanks a lot. I will definitely improve my SAT scores.
