whts there to help?? just be yourself, wear your orange shirt and greet him with 'jay shree ram' like any other bjp supporter. the important thing is being yourself... u dont want to pretend something tht you are not, do you? :D

HEHE,but I fear our conversation might get hijacked by a political discussion, coz I have very very strong views on this, and presumably,he does too

seriously...
u might want to leave ur political ideologies @ home and try to avoid gettin on any topic remotely connected w/politics. other than tht, in this case, acting ignorant about his political views might be your best bet. trust me - smart ppl can smell a fake when they see 1, so u dont even want to go close to ne political discussions...

"u might want to leave ur political ideologies @ home and try to avoid gettin on any topic remotely connected w/politic"

exactly..but what do I do if he raises the topic?
Of course I know that I cant fake it,and I certainly will not fake it..but what if we get into a discussion on this and it overshadows everything else?

just tell him tht you respect diff ideologies and believe tht your political ideologies are personal and would not like to discuss about it. And just shut up after tht.
dude, i m like u as well (in terms of passion in politics) and i have learned this lesson the hard way...(we've already tlked bout it b4..)

congrats hello...:)

CONGRATS hello - I still have their app/viewbook and you're already in at that place :D

akash - I'm not sure if your interview is over by now, but if not, I'd say you discuss your political beliefs openly during the interview. You must be yourself. Don't be "ignorant," okay? I think it will help you more than hurting you.

yeah. No interviewer is going to discriminate against you just because you don't share his/her political views so long as you don't come across as unnecessarily prejudiced or bigoted.

Congrats hello!

awesome hello! UIUC's cool

now wooster on the other hand, i just got the package today, and the finaid sucks. i shoulda known better.

Hello, did UIUC give u any aid?

And guys, thanks for all the advice.

astrix how much aid did wooster give anyway?

"No interviewer is going to discriminate against you just because you don't share his/her political views so long as you don't come across as unnecessarily prejudiced or bigoted"

i might not 100% agree with tht...this might be true for moderates, but we are seeing a serious trend of extreme leftists and rightists...in such a case, atleast from my previous experiences, people tend to forget the original purpose of the meeting and tend to get more personal...also, human mind plays dirty tricks where no matter how much 1 tries to be unbiased, people who share common beliefs as you do will always have a favorable opinion than most of the people who dont...

as far as "across as unnecessarily prejudiced or bigoted" - political discussion is all about being bigoted, esp with akash :) as he himself have admitted ...

UIUC doesn't give intls fin aid, but I'm going to apply for aid at Duke and Northwestern university now. I wanted to get atleast one good college under my belt, just like adi ;)

Astrix: you can always bargain :D

oh. in that case akash had better learn to keep his big mouth shut. soon. :p

i know tht some of u are applyin to BITs so thought u might find the headlines informative-

"HYDERABAD: Andhra Bank has entered into an MoU with Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences, Pilani, for providing educational loan to students, who have secured a seat in the institute" from economictimes.com

haha,u guys still competing for meanest person??

well, i guess they were not going to change their policies for me. i discovered only couple of days before applying that they offer max 50%. that's what i got. anyhow. here's to an acceptance! somebody wants me :p

congrats astrix...:)
