the practicals are from the 21st. The theory papers start on the 1st of March

Welcome Nitin and Daphne! (two more to the pack!)

You're more likely to indulge in useless talk here on the Indian Post than anything of value :D j/k

BTW there's way more than 26 indians on CC. I remember a thread in the Cafe ("Calling all desis") - that had loads and loads of desis on it.. and was more happening than our good ol' indian post.

oh? and what's your definition of 'happening'?

yeah I know there are more than 26 Indians on CC. I was quoting that number from the Where are you from? Poll which doesn't take the American born desis into consideration.

And like astrix, Id be interested in your definition of 'happening'...

:o

okay okay

btw, who has plans for tomorrow?

you sadist

Is it a surprise I edited my post to include that? :D

daphne - welcome aboard.

such - u should definitely study tonight...always be a contrarian and u will do well... :)

merc - bout tomorrow, i am still tryin to figure out the cheapest way out of it...parties in bbay costs ridiculously expensive...btw - who came up with this stupid idea of v-day neways??? it is such a chick thing and the guys got to tag along to ... u know wht... i hate it...

yo akash man - how was the interview??

hah! I take great offence. Neither I nor any of my girl friends has ever organized anything special by themselves V Day, with bfs or without. Now if the bfs find it essential to give gifts/throw parties, then its their call :p

well, i will say tht Cal girls are nicer than.
Over here it is all about competitive pressures...it is all about whose bf gave the nicest gift and took to the best parties...it is our call @ the end of the day, but if we make a bad call...u know how it is going to end...
this year the decent parties are costin anywhere from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 10,000 per couple and 'in-demand' gift is the ipod shuffle, aaah, materialism...how i hate it sometimes...

Rs 10000

No we're more low maintenance than that...I guess.
Then again there are couples that gift each other Rolex watches so I dont really know. But this whole V Day thing is ridiculous. This guy gave my friend a zillion roses and kind of assumed that she had become his gf when she accepted them. CRAAAAZY!!!

I know...thts wht i mean by sayin tht it is such a ridiculous waste of time, money and energy (esp. 2 weeks b4 the boards...) some of u low maintenance girls from cal need to move to bbay and teach our groupies couple of things...
rolex watches  well i am glad tht ipod shuffle is good enuf...

lol the nutter who gave my friend the zillion roses tried to give her a diamond ring or bracelet or something...the poor kid (my friend, that is) was utterly panic stricken!

poor?? I'd say she hit the jackpot, gettin ppl like adi to pay for her :D

Hehe,MIT sent out Vday Cards to EA acceptees

"ppl like adi to pay for her" dude me a gujju bania, i always get the better end of the deal ;) trust me...

lol how much does an Ipod shuffle cost in India?

200 dollars here :sigh:

$200
the 512 costs Rs. 4750 and 1 g is like Rs. 7000

Alright, I was thinking about college admission and kinda thought tht 'houston, we have a problem'. Let me illustrate it with an example. For the purposes on the example, i will be making some assumptions, so please bear with me. The assumptions are for illustration purposes only and need not be a prediction on any1's acceptability to these schools.

Most ivy keep yield rates according to schools in the US and I wont be surprised if they keep it for country as well. So let us say that the yield rates for India at these colleges are as follows-

Harvard 90%
Princeton 80%
Yale 70%
UPenn 60%
Columbia 50%
Brown 50%
Dartmouth 50%
Cornell 50%

These colleges knowing the historical yield rates admit enough Indians to yield their target # of students. So for example, Yale is thinking that 7 Indians (from India) is a good number to diversify their class, will admit 10 that would end up yielding 7. The other 3 might end up selecting Harvard, MIT, Caltech, etc.

As observed on the threads and posts prior, all of us have applied to all ivy. So let us assume that each college wants to admit ONLY 2-3 Indians. If we take our CC population as an example what we end up seeing is (only for illustration purposes)

Harvard Ritz, Such, Akash (Ritz and Akash accepts)
Princeton Such, Akash, Gandalf, Astrix (Such and Gandalf accepts)
Yale - Such, Akash, Gandalf, Astrix (Astrix accepts)
UPenn - Such, Akash, Gandalf, Astrix (no1 accepts ??)
Columbia - Such, Akash, Gandalf, Astrix, Merc (Merc accepts)
Brown - Akash, Gandalf, Astrix, Merc (no1 accepts ??)
Datmouth - Gandalf, Astrix, Merc (no1 accepts ??)
Cornell - Gandalf, Astrix, Merc (no1 accepts ??)

So essentially, UPenn, Brown, Dartmouth, Cornell did not get what they were looking for and people like me did not get admitted do you all see what I am trying to convey here??

I was wondering if it would have made more sense for co-optition whereby all applicants from India would have got together and mutually decided that a particular candidate only applies for these colleges and no other, thereby increasing the chances of all Indian applicants???

Its too late and hic, I went out for some fun tonight, so sorry if I am rambling, But game theory teaches that co-optition is the way to maximize success
