Mr Thing? Huh? Care to explain?

mr. sfs. sfs = my school. don't you have those stupid competitions. those pageant things. ugh. doesn't sound so good to write about now!

oh that...yeah of course we have them... doesnt every one?...its usually fixed ...atleast we fixed the results when we were in XI :p...
Sorry...got carried off with the ellipses...

helloooooooooo

Yo! I was Mr. Don Bosco first runner up too.... The winner was my best bud who I write songs with, and he beats me to everything by a teeeny margin lol.... and no sucharita, this one wasn't "fixed" - it was live voting by teachers and students THEN and THERE  You could hear the chicks scream everytime I went on stage :) and friends later told me the 11thers were blowin flying kisses... seriously...

Yes I have... but I haven't heard any of their songs...

what's with jamshedpur?
Suyash is leaving for jamshedpur tomorrow (I think) and he made me post that .... lookin for someone to talk to while there (he's too lazy to actually log on and post himself).
but they edited out his stuff too?
Yeah I made em do it... :)

Wait Merc you from Don Bosco Delhi?

No, I'm from Don Bosco, Patna. :)

oh ok....... :)

merc do you remeber what organic samples you got for chem pracs in ISC? and the anions and cations in group analysis?

It's been a year and I can't be 100% sure, but what I do remember are:

Cations: Pb and Zn
Anions: Carbonate (2nd one I can't recall)
Organic: Acetone (can't recall 2nd one again)

I'm going to school tomorrow so I'll ask my chem teacher (last year she pointed out about 3 each from cations/anions/organic instead of the whole battery of tests).

What is that supposed to mean? Anyway I have no intentions of learning up the confirmatory tests for any coured samples or expensive samples which leaves me with around 6 cations to learn. Also my teacher told me that that sulphide and nitrite never come so won't learn those either.
Reason I was asking is because our teacher will definitely not repeat what came last ISC practical so I'm not going to waste time doing those now. Are you sure that Pb and Zn came? Someone was talking about Sr. And how do you tell the difference between a brick red flame and a deep red flame anyway?

coloured* samples-so no Cu, Ni, Mn, Fe blah blah blah

hey such: Do you study all the reactions involved with each test??

Yay,got a yale interview next Sunday.Sucharita,Sr has this realyy brilliant red color, like floresecnt blood, and Ca has a slightly orangeish colur which is brick red

And beware of Ba,which has flashes of apple green in Brick red

60 60606060606060606060606060606060606060606060

akash, who with? i had mine today.

same linda hall
So astrix, come on to Yahoo and tell me all abt ur interview

it was pretty much the normal interview, she had a list of questions, but basically asked about wanting to go to yale, acad interests, questions about yale, and talked about her experience. the rest of the stuff was just tangential from what i said / asked about. wasn't long, half an hour, she probably hurried it up coz she saw my dad waiting in a car outside :p

thanx akash, I can handle Ba but not Sr and Ca...so I will just have to do the confirmatory tests :p

No hello, we don't need the reactions for ISC but I know them vaguely anyway :D

Right. The board never sends, e.g. Hg, Ag, Au (expensive) or arsenic (poisonous) etc. so yes you'll have to memorize ~5-6 cations only. MAKE SURE you know the confirmatory tests for each, as you'll never need to perform those but you'll have to write about it in the paper. We used various tricks to identify the cation without actually performing all tests. I'll look up and let you know which ones we did. And yes it was Pb and Zn (then again, I'll double check with my teacher).

We learnt 4 anions and that was it

Why would you need to do flame tests? Like i said, figure out the cation and just write the confirmatory tests, don't actually perform them unless you're not sure.
