Have a Yale interview this Sunday.Tons of ppl have upenn interviews too

dammit - got to get back on their radar...

Yeah shikhar and akash had a Yale interview...

By the way, how do you guys get so astronomical marks in school exams? In my school no one got above, say, 65-70.... i've gotten 19 and 23 out of 70 in physics papers :D And no, I was actually 3rd rank in boards...

EDIT: Wow you guys are FAST! Who's staying on after ~1 o'clock tonight? I postponed my reformatting decision to tonight and now I just have to do it instead of joining this discussion. :(

I m doing a all-nighter this night.Ive dicovered thru personal experience that ure not really sleepy till 3 .00 pm the next day if u do so,So I guess I hvae 6 hrs till the schoolbus arrives

Yes, this is 100% right. I've discovered this too.

merc, help me out with my phy prac questions pls

so did i. i am on for tonight. need to get back into my rythem of sleepin @ 4-5 again. :)

Akash, man I will, but I'm from ISC so I might not know much about they way you have em (or even what experiments you perform!).

see my questions on last page

hi sry to buzz so ocassionally. i have applied for u penn. how to go for interview

the net site only gives a delhi address but no no. and i have been busy with exam prep .it just slipped out.i had a letter from u penn mentioning my chances will go down if iapply for aid

Wism me best of luck for Phy Board Prac tmorow ppl !!!

Good luck!

btw,How do u find out rough focal length?
Is the sheet of white paper supposed to be on the image side of lens,or object side?
I'll tell you the ISC way. First, fix the lens on the meter stand. Fix the white board on one side. Fix the object pin on the same side as the white board, and note the distance you put it from the lens (use a standard distance like 10cm). Now, fix the image pin on the opposite side. Look thru from the side of the image pin; you will see the object pin is inverted. If you move your head from side to side, the inverted image of the object pin and the actual object pin on your side will move, but not in sync. You have to move the object pin (the one on your side) towards or away from the lens and adjust it to such a position that when you move your head from left to right, the inverted image as well as the object pin move from left to right in tandem, without any relative shifting at all. Hope I was clear!

Also,Is there any need for a rheostat in that Impedance activity?
I have no idea about this experiment.

What happens to refractive index if light becomes "bluer"?
No idea once again.

How do we measure temperature of unknown resistance using meter bridge?
This is a bit involved, I'll explain when my computer is back up (in ~45 mins).

In finding internal resisatnce using potentiometer, from which galvanometer do we take out 2000 ohm plug, inner one or outer,?And also, when?I mean, just while checking oppsite deflection on A and B ,or also while finding balancing length?
Hmmm I vaguely remember an experiment like this but I'm not sure, I won't even try for fear of giving you wrong info.

PLeas reply asap

Yes! I'll be back in 45 mins! :)

Syasha, ure in meerut right?I feel u shud send UPenn an email saying u want an intyerview and ther wud me no problem for u go to delhi.Ask them to schedule an interview for u in Delhi

i mean is there a number or i am too late for the interview.could u please tell me about princeton interview i have no idea about it

Whoops sorry I forgot to tell you how to actually find the focal length! So, when you get the "position of no parallax" you measure the distance of object pin and image pin from the lens and use 1/f = 1/v - 1/u to find focal length (following the sign convention!)

thanks akash yes i am in meerut chem practical tomorrow
No, you're not late. I got a letter from them yesterday and it said that RD applicants usually receive an interview in February.

see u live in meerut, thats why I dont think any college will actually give u an interview. But if u mail them stating that ure eager for Interview in Delhi, they will schedule one for u.BT,interview season has just started,so ure in time.

Merc, thanks for help for convex lens.Foe the temp and resistiviety one, cant we find resisatnce and then apply the resistance temp. formula.Or rather, since resisatnce is directy proportional to temp.,cant we find temp of resisatnce box, find resiaistance of unknown resistance, and then make a ratio-proportion question out of it?

and this post is mine

and this one (watch how I indulge in booth capturing ;) )
