Indian Students - Here!

@Rahulbarcafan @elysium305 @blaugrana9 Got Rejected.

@aridelhi I’ve been offered an interview, just like a majority of the applicants (or all of them I suppose? given how vital it apparently is to the application process) Their email read,

"We are pleased to invite you to an interview with a member of the Yale-NUS College Admissions team. Our staff has been interviewing some outstanding candidates and we don’t want to miss the opportunity to hear from you. In addition to learning more about you, we look forward to answering any questions you may have about life and academics at Yale-NUS.

This is your reminder to sign up for your informal interview with a member of the Admissions team. An interview is vital to the admissions process and required if you wish to be considered for admission.

Please visit your application status page and click on “Your Application” in order to schedule your interview. Interviews will be conducted on Skype for international applicants and will be held on campus for those in Singapore. Don’t delay as time slots are filling quickly!

We look forward to chatting with you soon.

Sincerely,
Yale-NUS Admissions"

I’d suggest you email one of the admissions counselors and request an interview spot soon because there are just a tad bit left.

Yale NUS offers interview to only a select few. 20 to 30% of the applicants. So you are lucky to have it.

Guys.
I’m getting pretty anxious so I decided to try the whole ‘chance’ thing. Help me pls. My stats:

Objective:

SAT I (breakdown): n/a
ACT (breakdown): 34 (M35 E35 R34 S31)
SAT II: Math II 790 Phys & Chem 710
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): n/a
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): top 1% in the state of Maharashtra in grade 12, 2/120 in grade 10.
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Award by INSPIRE for being in the top 1%. Best player (basketball), highest marks in computer science, Small scholarship by HDFC.

Subjective:

Extracurriculars: not much. Captain of girls basketball & throwball team, school prefect (one of the top positions in the school council, organised annual inter school fest for 2 years), Quiz club (Secretary), a few 1st and 2nd places in inter school competitions in dance & music - lead singer of school band, flute player in marching band. Science club, IAYP.
Job/Work Experience: internships at: 1. Full time paid work at IT department of Loan Firm, had my own small project. 2. For a consulting firm. 3. Organising IIMUN.
Done a bit of recording at a studio, and basically shadowed the guy who worked there to learn more about the workings of bass traps pop filters etc.
Volunteer/Community service: working at an NGO that teaches football to underprivileged children. Pretty much a year of volunteering during my gap year. (Fundraising, social media management, teaching)
Summer activities: selected for Space training at a NASA centre in Alabama (won best team award), selected for Cultural exchange in Italy World Dance Festival.
Essays: wrote about my corporate internship and how it was daunting at first, but I learnt a lot from it. It’s pretty good because it’s somewhat personal but my writing isn’t too eloquent.
For the “why XYZ” essays I connected my interest in comp sci and music to interdisciplinary projects in universities involving the two.
Teacher Recommendation: Computer Science teacher 9/10. Personal, portrays me as a creative, out-of-the-box hardworking student.
Chem teacher 8/10. Pretty basic. She says I’m a practical person.
Counselor Rec. 8/10. She didn’t know me too much & she was new so
Additional Rec. From the founder of the NGO I worked at 10/10 He talked about how I basically brought about a revolution in the org. And how committed I am.

Applied for Financial Aid?: at a few places + merit scholarships
Intended Major: Computer Science (also applied for a computer science + music program at a couple of places)
City: Mumbai
Gender: Female
Income Bracket:
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Antihook: Indian in an engineering field but I guess being female helps? Idk

Reflection

What you tried to focus on in your application - my past gap year and what I learnt from the risks I took, also my interest in interdisciplinary study of comp sci and music

Accepted at: UIUC, Purdue
Rejected: Cornell, GATech
Waiting for: Tufts, UCB, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Boston U, U of Rochester, RPI, UPenn, UWash, CMU, Dartmouth.

@ub1997 The female thing will help you in an engineering field. Surprised you were rejected from GaTech.

@Rahulbarcafan yeah but I assume it’s just a tipping point. Or does it have a greater effect?

@Rahulbarcafan GATech doesn’t have a large % of female students though…

@ub1997
They said they wanted to admit more females in STEM - the percentage of female students has increased a lot over the past 2-3 years.

I think you have a great chance at BU, and UCLA . Darthmouth and Upenn are ivies so it is impossible to chance for them. @ub1997

@ub1997 that’s the whole point

@Rahulbarcafan @potatoheadhala then it’s just sad that I was denied

@pallavijaniani true! The fact that they’re so unpredictable makes you want to apply to them even more. just trying my luck

Hey guys did anyone from this thread receive an invitation for an interview from Harvard?

@aridelhi I’m not quite sure about the authenticity of those statistics. would you mind disclosing the source of this percentage information? And you really should check your spam or junk folder man. Perhaps you’ve been invited or perhaps you will be. I’ve seen your stats and You’re competitive for all colleges.

@rahuilmars231 why were you banned?

I mean blacklisted, you were reported or something?

@skyblade1234 well, it is quite ironic man. I scolded a few idiots for being intolerably rude to a poor guy who posted his stats on a chance me thread. That lead to me being admonished for rudeness. The moderator is a tyrant lol.

Oh lol, that’s just sad

@ub1997
Don’t be discouraged, Georgia Tech has become extremely competitive to get into this year. Lot of rejections and deferrals to people whom would you have expected to be accepted.

@ShaunakK98 Your test scores are great and you seem very well rounded. I hope you get into your top schools!
