Indian Students - Here!

@Rahulbarcafan Yes, UW Madison is better than UMD. And there’s a high probability that i might go there as well

@Rahulbarcafan @pallavijaniani what’s your guys’ majors btw?
The reason I’m leaning towards uw is that I have haven’t made up my mind about a major. I’m interested in chemical engineering, bioengineering and materials engineering; and uw is better than all the colleges in my list in these 3 areas.
Plus uiuc costs $7K more and that’s completely unreasonable considering the fact that it’s starting salaries in these majors are only about $5K more on average.

@notasuperhero I will be doing a double major in Economics and Psychology.

@notasuperhero Mechanical engineering!

Omg omg omg omg I got into Yale NUS guys!!!
And with 47,000 dollars scholarship!! I’m soo happy :D/

@rahuilmars231 CONGRATS!

@pallavijaniani Thank you so much >:D<

Did any of you guys get in?

hello Indians and others,
If you applied/got accepted to UC San Diego (and even if you didn’t), check out ISA Answers, a service from the Indian Students Association at UCSD. The ISA seeks to ease the transition to college for incoming freshmen, and has dozens of students from various colleges and disciplines waiting to answer any questions you may have about UCSD classes and life, the American college experience, work-study and financial aid, and really anything else you’re wondering or concerned about. Submit your questions to the ISA Answers form here: https://do cs.google.com/forms/d/1Amlv7A8vTio60MtilsXFOrPPe3NbTsnAZWCTHDTm-oU/viewform

(remove the space between the o and c in docs to view)

Listening to run this town…!!!..Surf this on my advice all young men…///// B-)
Well…Accepted to UW Madison mech. engineering…
And Virginia tech as well…!!..!!
Anybody with an answer to my dilemma??
Coz’ VTech is 14th ranked in mech engineering us news but so is uw madison…Town wise and compatibility wise…NO IDEA from here frnds!!!
Only 2% students got accepted into vtech first round…I know only 2 such people…both on college confidential…
@indijat and @sibibib…so well done fellas!!!

B/W…many friends got nowhere… :open_mouth: …especially CS majoring ones…VERY COMPETITIVE YEAR this one!!!
Well done all who got accepted…! <:-P

@AdrenalineRacer Your way and style of writing bears an uncanny resemblance to @Indijat !

@tiwari124
LOL I cannot agree more.

@AdrenalineRacer
2% seems too low for VaTech.

But I do agree with your observation that CS is very difficult.
Actually, I’m a little confused. I got Math at UCSD, but CS at UCLA.
I think yield matters too when adcoms consider you for your majors. Anyone else feel the same?

@rahuilmars231 WOW! Congrats!!

Rejected … as expected. I really, really screwed my interview. Mind posting your stats ?

Purdue anyone?

@thunderfly Oh mann I’d have loved to see you there. Maybe something better is in store for you. Harvard perhaps?
And my stats are pretty subpar for Yale. But my essays and interview were positively marvellous! (I mean essays are subjective but interview went superbly!)
SAT 1- 2170
SAT II- 780 Chem, 770 Math 2, 750 Phy
I topped all the exams pretty much all through out my school and got a bunch of internships and scholarships through those grades. And I’m an outspoken LGBT rights activist (I’ve impacted a lot of people) and research scientist (junior lol- but I discovered some interesting things and might get a patent).

If you wanna read my essays, Please do tell. I’d be glad to share them.

@potatoheadhala i’m not too sure about that yield theory, since ucsd admits you to the university first, to a college second, and to a major third. I think CS is just getting more and more impacted at sd, and admissions are getting harder. Math-CS is still a solid major choice

@DoctorP
Okay, I guess I was trying to rationalise too much then.

@rahuilmars231
Congratulations! Are you going to Yale NUS for sure, or are you waiting on other decisions?

Congratulations everyone!! btw anyone who’s planning to attend uw, remember to complete your housing contract by April 1st. It’s non-binding, so you can still go to some other university if you choose not to attend uw.

I need a little help here,
So my SAT 1 score is 2130 (670-W, 800-M, 660-R)
SAT 2 score is 2400 (M2,Phy,Chem)
TOEFL - 112
11th telangana board 95.4 and probably gonna get 96 in 12th,
EC’s arent that good, few distinctions in IAIS exam and an MUN and a voluntary service.

I’ve applied to Princeton, Columbia, Duke, Stanford and Purdue. Looking to get purdue with scholl if i can, im pretty sure my chances for the rest is pretty low. And i also want to apply to NUS. What do u think my chances of these colleges are?
