<p>"General awareness, excellence in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, communication skills and in-depth understanding of Science and Mathematics at their class level will be the basis for selecting the ultimate winners".</p>
<p>shash_rao : the proposal might be the basis of testing communication skills</p>
<p>Hey Astrix, I think best of four didnt include comp sci unti last year. Hmm just hope you get admitted into one of the US unis so that you can skip the mad rushes for application in DU!
:)</p>
<p>hey we have a pure south indian here wohoo!! Welcome Rao !</p>
<p>hi,
not sure if this is the rite place but i juz want comments on my chances.
i am an indian girl but been studyin in singapore for over 6yrs.
my sat scores is 1570 (800 verbal n 770 math).
my sat2 score is 800 physics, 770 math2C, but i screwed writing 670 and since i sat for dec'04 no time to retake..
other academic, well till sec sch(olevel/10th grade) i had i guess pretty gd record as i was valedictorian, top student Olevel in school and top for Eng lang, math and eng n chem at during sec3 (9th)
Olevel grades: 6A1s n 2A2..A1 in Eng, Hindi, Emath, AMath, Phy, Chem ( i did nto take olevel Bio however took it up at alevel)
A2 for Geography and combines Humanities (Social st + lit)
for Hindi as well i was prize winner throughout due to 1st position but only in my class... my cca were Red Cross (i ws co- chairman and at rank of staff seargent) as well as drama n debate..
as for JC (11th n 12th),unfortunately I slacked a lot and was not serious about studies till last minute. My grades were just so-so around B or C mostly.. obviously now i wish i had worked hard in JC...)
I did last minute cramming for Alevels.
my sub for Cambridge Singapore Alevels were C Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, General Paper (GP), Hindi ( i scored A1 as hindi results were out last yr) .
I am also taking Spaper for chem(somewhat equal to US honors paper) however, i have very low hopes for hitting even a merit for that now though i have heard US hardly takes in consideration Spaper.. my cca have been Cricket (the only jc with girls team) and i am vice-capt, indian cultural society, CT REP (class monitress). Unfortunately i was not serious enough in yr1 (11th) to sign up for any of the olympiads.
I do volunteer work at a nationaly recognised community group SINDA. I did not work in summers last year ( i doubt it is a valid excuse but most singaporean studnets in my opinion generally do NOT wokr in summers, only at end of O or A level when waiting for results).however now i have a job at NUS (natl' uni of singapore). I do research type of work, more specifically data collection on variety of topics.
I am not to sure how gd my recommendation reports will be , i know they wont really be negative but not sure how glowing and as for my essays, i have received mixed results. My GP teacer beleived it to be good however not all found it convincing.
I have applied for MIT, Harvard and UPenn...[why! oh why!]. I know it is a really long shot specially after reading about people with much bttr academics and ECAs but still were rejected however, some did not have very impressive records but stil made it.
So i am hoping for comments.Hope they are not too scary :P as i am already a nervous wreck with GCE Alevels results due in 2 weeks time..
thnx</p>
<p>Neha,I think u have a really good chance for any of the colleges u have applied. But u know that they are all crapshoot..so keep ur fingers crossed and wait for an acceptance letter in April.</p>
<p>hi,
i had interview for mit in dec and it seemed pretty ok...the guy was friendly and laughed gd naturedly at some of my 'stories'.talk was all non academic, more on interest n cca's..however, it seems tt all my frenz who had mit interview had a friendly time so it made no diff i guess...harvard does not have interview in singapore n upenn still has not contacted anyone in singapore..will it hurt our chances since no interview??</p>
<p>initially i did but my upenn application seemed the worst so dad adviced to pull back on financial aid...so no more aid..
however ya aid for mit n harvard..
one more thing, postmark deadlines means the day it leaves singapore rite? or must reach US?</p>
<p>ad Upenn essay was screwed i think cos i applied ofr wharton tho i take pure sciences and no economics or accounting.. so in the second essay i did not have much to write abt the course i wanna do so instead i talked abt Upenn in general, abt the facilities etc... but it was a rushed job as i started writing it at 9pm 31 dec as midnight my internet conncetn was abt to be cut...so ya hope my essay made some sense...again i had mixed reviews for the first essay (abt experience n impact) tho more -ve reviews this time compared to mit essay..</p>
<p>ya!! Whats the deal wit these diaries, why do girls hesitaite soo much to share a few impersonal things? A friend of min e simple refuses to have me near it!</p>
<p>welcome neha! thanks for not adding to my misery by applying to princeton :p Great SATs btw. How did u manage to pull a B and C in JC? I think thats the only weak point, nothing more...Repeating what my pton interviewer told me, "high SATs combined with low scores wont help ur app. It shows ur a good test taker and not a good student. You have the opposite, so they'l view ur (my) HS transcripts with a great deal of suspicion" I have low SATs but nearly all As, and u have the opposite, but hopefully things work out and u get into the place u want.</p>
<p>self control and me?!?!?!?!?!?!? man nomad...u make me laugh!!! Im supposed to be doing my chem HW now but iv spent an hour now on CC. call that self control! :p</p>
<p>self control!!!!! hey, i am supposed to be workin rite now in office and i spend over three hrs at cc today as i juz discovered the site...:)
callthecops: well my B and Cs were result of last minute cramming and not being serious..for me its usually a clear pattern, when i have studied, i will get A or worst B , if last minute then get B/C if barely then D/E...or fail... my prelims were bad...had ABBC C for math!!! i cud have died! i tot math sure A, i am bankin on my predicted results should be 4As and hoping my actual results do come out as that!! :o</p>
<p>from ben jones of MIT
"Not sure how many international students have applied this year - I don't think they've released that figure yet. As for 100 (more or less) getting accepted, that sounds about right"
bloody quota systems</p>
<p>ohhh. look i got the 200th post...i continue my tradition (1000, 2000, 2500, and now 200 :))</p>
