Not Geeks. Just the guys who think school work is the only thing in life. Geek implies interest in academic pursuits as a whole, not just school stuff - thats a bad thing here...

true.
i know a guy who started studying for the IIT entrance 2 weeks after his 10th boards got over.

he wears a bottle around his neck to college everyday, cannot travel by bus/cab alone-his mother has to pick him up, and wears his pants up to his nipples.

most likely he will get into IIT.
i shudder when i think that these guys will one day become the captains of industry.

ROTFL!!
Well I certainly started studying for IIT 2 days after my class 10-so that I cud enroll in the top batch at Fiitjee -biggest mistake of my stupid life-I shud have started in July-then maybe I cud be happily giving my IIT exam rather than thinking of applying abroad

"he wears a bottle around his neck to college everyday, cannot travel by bus/cab alone-his mother has to pick him up, and wears his pants up to his nipples."

I know so,so very many ppl like that..but hey,I never travelled in a bus myself until I was in Class 11

Why so many Indians getting into USA???

akash: No wonder.....you are 16 for chrissake...

and shashank, ask akash what Meattle (MIT interviewer) said... it began something like "MIT does not care about your passions.."

I guess that applies to almost all colleges.. except that I am really disappointed at MIT being one of those. But then they accepted jpsi, and Princeton accepted sucharita... bottomline is, you HAVE to be an academic superstar at school first, to stand any chance. I am a lot like flamethrower, joined students movements and all to protest against this... all to no avail. Who fuckin cares....

Everything that I have ever done is sweeping across my mind right now.. and I've lost interest in continuing..... this is a sign that we are thinking too ideallistically. Now go and study for JEE, it's on sunday.

:-/

and why so many Indians? Well 11000 undergrads go to the US each year.. that's 0.001% of the total poluation.

cos we're indians!

akash.. how come ur 16?

that means u started studyin for IIT when u were 14?

sad but true

Hey flamethrower-who among the Duke acceptees from Mumbai are u?

Are ur initials RK,RM,RS or AS?

You know my sad, pathetic story? 8th class to 10th class, i went to a IIT Foundation Course, which is basically coaching for entrance exams to coaching centres for the JEE. 11th and 12th i went to those places. I have effectively not had a vacation longer than 5 days since i started 8th, except when i got sick of it and skipped classes. Nowadays, apparantly there are coaching centers to get you into the IIT foundation course. Those start in 6th. I challenge ANYONE from ANYWHERE in the world to beat that.

PS - my motive for joining those places was different from what they were designed. I signed up since they were the most rigourous courses available to me - no A-levels and APs here, you know.

Dude! You must be a twin, cuz it's exactly the same as me... I got absolutely frustrated of it all.... totally burned out, in September of 12th grade. So I skipped a whole month..didn't go to school at all. Fortunately there were only about 10 working days in that period.

And - coaching to get into coaching to get into IIT?! Thats....ewww.. which institute did you attend? FIITJEE, Bansal and VidyaMandir are supposed to be the toughest, but i was able to get into FIITJEE (11th grade) and also the infamous Intensive Contact Program (jan this year)..... and I'm only above average when it comes to hardcore studying..
