I dont know yet-but Duke is generally very generous with financial aid and unless it does a Cornell on me -Ill go there

Nomad-no school is worth going 70K in debt.I turned down Cornell and Carnegie Mellon for precisely that reason.

Also, since JHU accepted u, perhaps you have very good chances of acceptance if you transfer, and u cud do so in ur sophomor year to cut down on costs

U definitely can't get 94% without studying-amend the figure to 90%

laila - MIT is more than a science college...its finance, economics, operations research, architecture, etc are world renowned as well...and the thing you got to remember is - its all about the $$$...dont take me wrong...i love harvard and MIT equally...but MIT students are perceived more as smart kids whereas harvard students are perceived more as arrogant know-it-all (sorry ritz:( )
plus, you can take classes at harvard even as a MIT student...so tht way u can get best of both world...

nomad, akash...are u guys as confused as I am about ur fin aid situation??? i mean...why would these colleges offer admission, then not offer fin aid and decrease their yield...??? strange ppl...those fin aid ppl are...

callthecops- im in at
duke, wustl, georgetown, grinnell, brandeis, colgate, macalester, case western reserve

waitlisted at williams and amherst

akash- duke meets 100% of the accepted student aid requirement

I know, but so did Cornell too

nomad i dont think going into 70000 dollar debt is a wise decision. at all.

consider that u take loans and have to pay an interst of roughly 6%, that figure becomes 86800$
add to this ur living expenses what not

even a relatively decent starting salary of 50,000$ after taxes = roughly 30,000$ (using 40% tax rate, low i think)

of this 30,000 u will need atleast 20000 to live-house food etc
therefore even assuming that u dont pay interest on the initial 70000$(which u will have to)- its gonna take u nine years AFTER u graduate to pay off the loans. plus u might have to pay for grad school-i've heard finaid is tighter there.

in short, go where the aid is best.

take it from the gujju's mouth.

other pssible suggestions-
1) marry ambani's daughter
2) 2 year stint as indian politician (even corporator will be enough)
3) start coaching class
4) marry ambani's daughter

thats weird akash- why dont u call them and tell them? point out the rule- act a bit tough. say you've been cheated.
demand a refund of your application fee atleast.

im not kiddin- this isnt an indian univ, try it dude.
they play by the rules

5)Get Lakshmi Mittal's daughter to divorce her husband and marry you

thanks for the advise Flamethrower,I was planning on calling them tmorow anyway.

Anyway Cornell is not my first priority anymore-its Duke!Go Blue Devils!!

Just didnt like Cornell at all

after reading all ur posts and other CC posts, it seems like any of our boards, CBSE, Alevel, IB(atleast the kinds i noe in sinagpore) u can slack the whole year, screw ur prelims, cram 2 weeks b4 exams and still ace them.... hmm..

start preparin for iit in 6th!! sheesh man..this thing sounds much worse than my dad tells me...thnk god he did not send me indian in jan to take prep classes like one of my schoolmates...

gd luck to all of u sitting for the entrance thingy..!!

Neha-Im sorry but u are starting to sound amazingly like Premanjali :p

please enlighten me, exactly how?? :p

akash- duke emailed everyone their finaid packages.
if u havnt got yours yet i think u should get worried now

yea neha- all board exams suck big time

hmm adides, I am actually, but i guess 10 internationals wouldn't make much of a difference in terms of yield.

well great advice guys but mmm the thing is technically Cornell and JHU are within their rules . Its not what we need that counts it's what they decide your need to be. So if they determine that you do have need theyll give it you. I believe they look at savings and income( pretaxed) and just decide then and there.

No matter what i am not letting this oppurtunity go frekaaing !qioasdjklqwe, I'll fight the battle till the very end. OR I shall atleast ask for a guranteed transfer or something. ( good idea akash ) Bah I just hope my dad wins a lottery or i get an awesome job which pays for my education!

In other news a classmate of mine got in EA univ of chicago econ program and is going to pay full tuition frm his own pocket even though his dad is rich. But oh well hes been working for 2 years though I guess thats a plus ( as we are allowed only to work within the univ but others are not)

I just finished converting everything to rupees ( typical indian I know :D ) and lets just say I am not forcing this issue with my parents now :)

Flamethrower

1) is she hot? how old is she ?
2) Min age for government employee is 23 ( dam, should think of joining laloo)
3) start coaching class ? As in how to get into a college and not go to it ?:)
4) is she hot?

Akash

5) Hmm im looking towards all avenues :) . Hope he doesn't think dowry is illegal

dude who cares if she's hot? she's ambani's daughter!!lol

dont worry about the min age- go to government office. give chai paani. will give u fake birth certificate.
very easy and straightforward

start any damn coaching class- i've found the harder they work you- the more people want to go to that teacher.

u have a point there about how they evaluate the need. but thats weird cos i doubt they understand indian tax returns anyways (anyone who's seen it will know what im talkin about)- so basically they have to follow the figures that u provided. am i rite?

one dhirubhai's grand daughters is our age.
she got accepted to stanford early.
oh, an she's smart too

wow....is she hot? then im applying SCEA Stan next year...then ishq vishq and then dowry and then divorce...plan kaisa hai? :p

Dude no girl is worth going for only for the sake of money, will never stoop to that level ( except if it gurantees my admission to Stanford, well no not then either)

Stanford heh its like 4hours from here ( flight) hmm interesting:)

Yea thats how i think this goes no idea i am calling JHU tomm
